Deck Description

Deck is still in brainstorming mode! If you want to help (and this time I need help), here is what I am trying to do:
(as always, this is for multiplayer: mostly 2-vs-2 teamgames if we are 4, Pentagram if we are 5. Format is Vintage and the playgroup knows each other for 20+ years)

Main card is Perplexing Chimera. If you use it's abilty, you "steal" a spell but the opponnent gets control of the Chimera. Main combo is Brooding Saurian, which gives back control of each permanent to it's owner at end of each turn.

Now, what I am looking for is:
* Ways to force/encourage other players to play spells that I can hijack (they see the Chimera and thus will be hesitant to cast anything I could capture)

* Other consistent ways to get back Chimeras I lost (something like the Gilded Drake I already added - since I own it, I can steal the Chimera, opponent gets the Drake and the Saurian gets me the Drake back, too).

* Other combos that work with Brooding Saurian.

* Any clever way to assure the Chimera stays alive

The last one is especially tricky. There are two problems: First, it works for ALL players, so I cannot all those exchanging cards like Juxtapose or Conjured Currency, the opponents would get their stuff back, too. Secondly, unfortunately the Saurian explicitly says "non-token permanent", so I also cannot give the opponent tokens via something like Hunted Phantasm.

Deck discussion for Perplexing the crowd

Unfortunately, there's not many ways to force opponents to cast spells, and there aren't many good ways.

Spellshift lets you counter an instant or sorcery and makes that spell's owner cast an instant or sorcery from their library by revealing cards until they find one.

Omen Machine forces players to cast spells as well.

As for protecting the Chimera, maybe play Shielding Plax to give it shroud?

Omen Machine sounds okay, but it's also a bit dangerous because essentially I give everyone access to extra cards. I thought of something like Elkin Lair, but hoped there would be one in green/blue.

About protecting it - would equipments work? As I understand it right, if I equip the Chimera with, say, Lightning Greaves, and my opponent gets control of it, the Greaves are still on it, right? And I still control the Greaves, so he cannot re-equip it, right? If so, I'll probably go with Darksteel Plate.

EDIT:
Maybe I could also use something like Iron Maiden to encourage them to play stuff? But Iron Maiden would make them think I play with Prosperity, Timetwister or the like ... thus making it look more dangerous than it actually is.

If you have a creature with an equipment equipped and it goes under the control of another player then the equipment will stay attached but you can still equip it to your other creatures on your turn.

301.5d An Equipment’s controller is separate from the equipped creature’s controller; the two need not be the same. Changing control of the creature doesn’t change control of the Equipment, and vice versa. Only the Equipment’s controller can activate its abilities. However, if the Equipment grants an ability to the equipped creature (with “gains” or “has”), the equipped creature’s controller is the only one who can activate that ability.

If you want to play Iron Maiden I guess you should throw in a couple of effects like Timetwister or Prosperity to get maximum value, and for the filtering/draw. Also if you're going to play Iron Maiden you might as well play other cards that punish big hands. You could go into red, which punishes really well for this. If you want to stay in U/G then you can play Sword of War and Peace which also gives you value.

EDIT: Hive Mind for extra jankiness? I know it doesn't make people cast spells, but it would be fun.

That's the thing, if I have Iron Maiden and add draw-7-effects, I'll be warping the deck into something else. The Chimera will play econd fiddle and at some point it will be superflous.
HIve Mind, well, I like the general idea and would do this in 1-on-1 situations, but in multiplayer there'd be way too many targets. Actually it would be super-chaotic in Pentagram, since players can give each other the Chimera prior to resolving their copy of a spell. Okay, it sounds super funny now, it won't improve the deck but it will be hilarious :)

So the equipment idea works like suspected, moving Darksteel Plate to main deck (cards in sideboard are cards I consider adding - we don't use sidesboards).

Okay that's fine. The deck should maintain it's original identity.

Now that I think about it, Hive Mind doesn't work with Chimera since the opponents need to cast the spells, and they're only just copying spells others cast. It would still be fun to put in though, as a one-of or something like that.

I like it! I found some cards that would go well with this.

First: I discovered something very interesting about creatures you control. You can exile them for far less mana than exiling someone else's. And if you get yours back at eot, why not exile them?

Synod sanctum, helvault.

Second: with all these exchanges going on, why not get better benefits? You're going to get your stuff back anyway.

Sky swallower, spawnbroker, yasova dragonclaw.

Those last two may not make much sense, but if you're getting the other guy's Terra stomper, swinging with it, then exiling it, that guy is probably gonna scoop. Hope this helped!

Sky Swallower would work. But it's also risky (someone kills the Saurian in response and I am done). Even if it works it's just an 8/8 flyer (I hate to say it but these days that isn't much in multiplayer). Spawnbroker and Yasova, however, don't work since the opponent will get his stuff back. I could exile/sacrifice it with something like Claws of Gix, however, if I'd going to go that road, I wouldn't need Brooding Saurian or exchange type of cards, I'd just grab everything with Reins of Power and sac the stuff. It would be a different deck and it would be annoying and not original.
But please, let this not discourage you, I appreciate any suggestions like yours, it always makes me think, reconsider and reevaluate!

I'm looking for more cards that interact with cards that interact with saurian. It gives more versatility that way. I wasn't keen on those other cards anyway. But you really should consider helvault. Turning those switcheroo spells into super cheap removal would be a huge advantage. And you could always keep some mending touchs in case they do decide to bomb the saurian. Mending touch should be there no matter, since it is such an important piece.

Spells don't change zones when control is exchanged. So you can't exile Doom Blade if control is exchanged with Helvault.

Nyxborn, Helvault only works on creatures anyway. Lord Cinder, I don't plan to exchange control of creatures because the opponent would get them back via Saurian anyway. The Gilded Drake is just a backup plan to get back the Chimera when I don't have a Saurian (in that case I need a non-spell and Gilded Drake being a creature means I could get it back later if I draw Saurian). Also note that if Helvault gets destroyed, creatures exiled with it will go back to the OWNERS control, meaning, if I exile creatures with it that I stole, they'll get it back.

However, I *could* use Helvault in a pinch on Gilded Drakes and Chimeras that defected ... but then I would also need a way to get rid of it so I get those creatures back in play? Probably something like Tinker to get the next Vault.

Okay, I must admit I don't really know the goal of this deck lol. This looks like a lot of confusion and fun. I'll let more experienced players help out. +1 though, this is a really cool idea!

I added a few more cards (probably have to play red as well) like Starke of Rath, Avarice Amulet and Rainbow Vale, all things that my opponents might get and the Saurian gets them back. That's the direction this should go.

Homeward Path!!! Didn't know that card, great pick!

But I don't understand your reasoning about Maralen. Preventing carddraw = casting spells? Maralen forces somebody to do something, yes, but don't forget, they all get to tutor for a card instead. Somebody WILL have a solution for Maralen and/or Perplexing Chimera that I cannot steal - a simple Wrath of God for example.

Yeah, of course, I can add stuff like Sol Ring on my own, I am just still on the prowl for ideas. Added some recently like Avarice Amulet which works great with Brooding Saurian as well.
I'll check your deck.
