Deck Description

Transcendence and Inner Sanctum let me prevent all damage dealt to my creatures so that I can do pretty much whatever I want while Death Pits of Rath is out. Deathgreeter gives me life to pay for Inner Sanctum or Unspeakable Symbol.

Pretty cheap, too. Around $20-30...

Deck discussion for Transcend the Death Pits

What are you going to do when you have to pay 8 life a turn with Inner Sanctum, and then Transcendence doubles that, making you have more than 20 life? That combo will backfire 3 turns after having it out.

Dude, damage and losing life make you lose life, not paying it as a cost.

Very interesting concept. Transcendence is a weird card. I am not sure that you need 4 death pits of rath since it only really helps you once inner sanctum out and you wouldn't want to do that unless you also had transcendence out. The artifacts and creatures are cool. I also wish that the vesper ghouls didn't cost 3 to put out but I guess for black mana production its not bad. I would try to whittle it down to 60 but thats just me. Cool deck.

Really, Transcendence/Inner Sanctum are only there as BACKUP for Death Pits in case I can't get everything done that I need to with one volley or when I'm up against a burn heavy or shooter deck. I'd drop them down to three (or even sideboard them), but I play 3-4 player free for all. That means I need to be prepared to handle 3 different types of decks at once, and is also one of the reasons this deck is 70 cards. Actually, Deathgreeter can keep me alive with Inner Sanctum long enough to clear the board once. After that, I usually wind up sacrificing Sanctum if Transcendence isn't out. Once I control everyone's creatures, the game doesn't last too long.
