Deck Description

This Legacy tournament deck utilizes the broken defensive power of Trinisphere and Ensnaring Bridge. Your opponent becomes paralyzed, unable to cast spells or attack.

(Currently debating Cloudposts versus Maze of Iths or more manlands.)

Manabond, Life from the Loam, and Mesmeric Orb combine for explosive land draws. Ancestral Knowledge sifts out unnecessary components, and allows you to stack land and nonland cards so that Mesmeric Orb achieves maximum efficiency. (Sylvan Library serves a similar and complementary function.) Lock artifacts which end up in the graveyard from this process can be recovered with Academy Ruins during the upkeep, and missing land components or toolbox land/creature solutions can be tutored with Living Wish.

Zuran Orb provides enough life gain to survive a Burn matchup or late-game Zoo firebombs. It also facilitates repeated use of Bojuka Bog for Dredge or Lands matchups, keeps you alive long enough to establish a long, and combines with Glacial Chasm (for those metagames needing a stronger, land-based secondary answer to burn or creature damage).

In most cases, you'll stall the opponent's ground game until Ensnaring Bridge and the Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale shut down opposing creatures, while Trinisphere and/or Damping Matrix wreck most combos and make control more difficult to play. Goblin Welder (tutored via Living Wish) allows for instant-speed recovery of destroyed lock components.

Early game, you can use Ghost Quarter on your own lands to fetch Forests. During the mid-to-late-game, you use Ghost Quarter to destroy their land base (they'll run out of basic lands to fetch eventually). This, along with Trinisphere, will prevent them from ever playing another spell again.

You can win with Inkmoth Nexus poison counters, although you'll usually win when the locked-down opponent gives up.

Possible sideboard creatures: Death's Shadow, Perimeter Captain

Fountain Watch

Harmonic Sliver / Monk Realist / Tin Street Hooligan / War Priest of Thune / Ingot Chewer / Wispmare / Magus of the Disk

Deck discussion for Spherical Coordinates: Dredge

I'm debating whether or not to remove the Solitary Confinement combo. I'm usually tutoring for something else. Problem is, it's very very good versus Zoo -- Solitary Confinement + Damping Matrix shuts them down completely.

If I remove Solitary Confinement, I might also remove some of the draw (Horizon Canopy, Tranquil Thicket). I could toss in a Pithing Needle instead.
