Deck discussion for [Modern] Dark Soulstomp

Don't you think the Gorger is good enough without pumps? I mean, Birds with the Wreath or Bellow, attacking with a Gorger should do enough, right? On the other hand, you get to pump the Gorger for lethal, and with Boots in your opening hand, with 2 Hierarchs, 2 lands, and a Gorger, is ten damage on turn three, then all you should need to is...ten damage! Eh, like the deck! I don't think you've seen my modern deck yet, the RUBbing Modern Mad?

The most concerning problem I have with this deck is the lack of trample. Being modern, I lose access to Rancor and Berserk, which are what make Soulgorger a viable threat. Without them, he's just an 8/8 beater that only sticks around for a turn or two and can be chump blocked. Hexproof and haste are nice and all, but without trample he's more harm than good.

I replaced Bellows with Vines to make up for the lack of Boots, as well as provide pump -- which is important to push Birds and Pit-Skulk as additional threats.

Finally, Martyr of Spores was just there to test her out. I replaced her with Uktabi Drake, which is an all around more solid pick. He's an easy 2 damage to trigger Bloodthirst on the Pit-Skulk, and can be sacrificed to Soulgorger before I have to pay his echo cost, if I choose not to keep him around.

So. I've been playing this post-update, and this deck /kicks ass/. I love the response I get from opponents after playing Soulgorger, and the first thing they notice is an 8/8 on turn 2 or 3 "What the... is that!?" XD

Dude...that mana curve is smexy =]

Berserk is possibly one of the all-time best Stompy cards, and with SoulStomp, that's one hell of a kick in the balls to lose...I've seen turn 2 wins with It...

Even so, this looks really strong for Modern and all it's damn restrictions. Not liking the Helms...Maybe a better idea would be some kind of Trample-granting instant like Predator's Strike =/

The mana curve /is/ smexy ;D Thanks to you, et al., on buddysystem's deck for introducing me!

I'm actually quite fond of the helm -- it somehow magically grows to fit Soulgorger's gigantic metal skull, then a few moments later shrinks to fit Pit-Skulk, or even smaller to fit the tiny head of a Bird. :P It's actually the recursion that I like, over a one time pump spell. It is the less effective replacement to Rancor, and add's another layer to Pit-Skulk to get around Goyf wars, Reliquary's rise to power, and such. Pit-Skulk is really the secret champion of this deck, more than Soulgorger & Goyf. Wreath of Geists simply beaks that guy!
