Deck Description

The basic idea here is that all these cards are either about giving life, or causing death. It has lots of sacrificial creatures to feed mortician beetle, and help get out demon of death's gate. pawn of ulamog keeps producing tokens for every sacrifice, and reassembling skeletons for an endless supply of sacrifial creatures. I would love comments on this deck.

Deck discussion for Life and Death (comments please)

Cards in the sideboard are just cards I cut from my main deck. I have no problem swapping those for better sideboard cards. Just wondering too, if I sac a creature for eldrazi monument, would I also be able to add a counter to mornician beetle, and scry 1 with viscera seer? or would I have to sac 3 creatures for that to work? I am unsure about the rules with sacing...I dont think I have ever really utilized it.

If you sac'd a creature with Eldrazi Monument with Mortician Beetle and Viscera Seer out, you would put a +1/+1 counter on the Mortician Beetle, but would NOT scry 1. The scry 1 is an activated ability of the Viscera Seer where sacrificing a creature is the cost. The +1/+1 counter on Mortician Bettle is a triggered ability, triggering whenever you sacrifice something. So, if you wanted, you could sac a creature to scry 1 and trigger Mortician Beetle's ability, but you would still need to sacrifice something to the monument. So basically: it takes two creatures to sac for monument and scry, but your bettle gets a counter for each one you sac :).

perfect, thanks. I dont really care about the scry ability in this deck too much anyway...just a cheap 1 drop...would I be better to replace him with death cultist then?

I would use the vampire that lets you sac guys for +2/+2 until EOT. Forgot what he's called, he just came out in Rise of the Eldrazi. Using him to sac guys to make him bigger and also make Mortician Beetle bigger lets you get a lot of good value out of your spawn tokens and such.

bloodthrone vampire. I was thinking of adding that one, but its 2 to cast, and I was looking for 1 cast. I suppose thats not too bad though. I may consider making that switch. I think I will sideboard at least.

Well if money is no object... Vengevine would be pretty sweet to take up to 4, especially with fauna shaman. Awakening Zone should help the Spawn Keep growing in numbners, and i dont think ide mind losing 3 Spawn to play the demon. Also, im not really a huge fan of eternity vessel, you hafta get it out early or it is not very effective, and i havent seen anyone else think of this possibility but A hexmage if you try to use vessel would mean game. I know you could just NOT activate it when a hexmage is out but with leyline of anticipation... Its iffy buty i dont really like taking chances

hmm, interesting. I have never used an eternity vessel, so I am not sure if they are that good. I suppose you are right about having to get it out early though. perhaps I will replace those with something.

as for the vengevines, I pulled 1 from a booster, so I figured I could get 1 more. 4 might be a stretch though. awakening zone is interesting though. I was thinking spawn to sac for the demon too...and to help feed the beetle. I thought I had lots of spawn coming out already, but I suppose more is always better. thanks very much for your input. maybe I will take out the vessel and move doom blade over? do you think I need some creature removal? or should I go with the awakening zones?

Creature Removal is always good, but also if you were to put in awakening zone i would suggest a garruk. My friend plays an eldrazi ramp and i pointed out to him that he had like 10 spawn and he just needed to garruk overrun for 30 damage =) It provides an alternate killshot

hmm...I like that idea too. I may think about doing that for this deck, but I might put that in my eldrazi deck too...that sounds fun
