Deck discussion for Capere, inveniet Vitam et Mortem

*sees Gerrard's Verdict, and Debtors' Knell* I approve. :P
You COULD be a dick though and run Hymn to Tourach

Honestly man, the deck is crammed tight. I've found that if you find a commander that you really like, the whole deck just comes together, and it goes from "now what do I throw in to make it 99" to "Wow, I need to cut this down to 99".

Did you get the title? =P

I think the title should be the flavour text to Syphon Flesh more than Teysa, if that answers your question.

And I know what you mean about needing to cut it down to 99, I found so many douchey/'utility' enchantments that it was a tough choice.

For your Zur deck you mean? I honestly don't know how you got it down to 99. Enchantment deck in B/U/W?! The world is your freakin' oyster! Btw, have you seen that new enchantment from M12?

I've not seen any from M12 for Zur, but surgestorm(or whatever it was) looks like fun for a Norin the Wary deck.

Check out "Personal Sanctuary". You'll be pretty happy =P

I've heard Norin can be obnoxious if the deck is made correctly.

My god this deck kicks ass. Teysa is an insane general, and the dual-colored creatures make her abilities borderline overpowered.

I <3 Orzhov =]

I very much like this deck. I definitely have to build this deck.
Teysa is a devilishly fun general to play.

Here is my Teysa Deck. I only have a couple of other EDH decks but this one is by far my favorite.

What about adding in an inquistor and entomber exarch? The fact that they are both clerics and that they had great entering combat abilities seem like a natural fit for this deck

I wanted to add so many more cards than I could possibly ever fit...those guys included. That's the sign of a general you love...there's an endless list of cards you want to use =P

Hey, I built this deck but I find that I run into a hand deficit against most decks. Do you ever see that problem and if so, do you have anything to combat it beyond the sensei's diving top and the necropotence?

0
Posted 06 August 2011 at 17:45

I have ran into that problem too, the deck is fast and so puts down its hand pretty early on. It's an issue that I've been toying with improving, but I'm not sure what I want to take out =P

I tend to bring back some card afvantage by the fact that this deck has so many threats, and can use the cards on the field as spells themselves in a sense. I can also have virtual card advantage when a few cards, such as Deathbringer especially, add uses and versatility to cards...essentially giving you a 2-for-1. Deathbringer, for example, makes most cards gain (in a way) "when you play this card, destroy target creature".

I've thought about adding skullclamp due to the number of tokens and creatures that I can sacrifice for a beneficial cause.

Skullclamp would be pretty nice I suppose =P

skullclamp and painters servant. probably -1 conjurer's ban, and.... idk..... -1 land? skullclamp will keep the deck running at high speeds, and painter's servant can make everything white for some serious removal or black for some sacrificing shananigans.

Painter's is usually too boring or too cheesy, but sometimes you have to channel Douglas Adams and make a top explode into goblins explode into a whale, angel, and scarecrow. At least in decklist form. =p

I love Orzhov and ESPECIALLY Teysa, so then why do you not run her biggest combo? I have found that Darkest Hour is her real best friend.

0
Posted 27 August 2011 at 12:27

Darkest hour makes all of the creatures black and only black. You loose the synergy of the creatures being both white and black - Teysa's removal ability is no longer useful and deathbringer liege becomes a lot less powerful as well.

Why No Sorin???

0
Posted 27 August 2011 at 19:19

Because using Sorin in EDH is an instant -1000 karma points, as well as gaining the hatred of every player at the table very quickly (often followed by immediately getting ganged up on and killed).

It's EDH, there's politics. Just because a card is good in EDH doesn't make it a good IDEA for EDH.

1
Posted 29 August 2011 at 05:34

Exactly. The best EDH player I know is my buddy Arty, who is a master at politics. He has a "deal making" EDH deck with Zedruu that works beautifully =/

Using Sorin, or something like him will win you the first game, but be ready to get your ass whomped the next few games after that =P

Teysa is such a fun card to use, no wonder she is popular as an EDH commander. Black white compliment each other so well in terms of control but also powerful cards, and guildpact gave them so much strength. Looks like a good deck. In EDH (now called "Commander"), you have a 99 card deck with each card (except basic lands) different. You then have 1 "General" or "Commander" off to the side in the "Command Zone". You can cast the General from the CZ at any time, providing you have the mana to do it. If the Gen. dies, you can choose to send it back to the CZ. If you do, it costs 1 colorless more to play each time the Gen. was sent back.

You can only use cards that have the mana symbols of your General. If a red creature has an ability with blue in it, for example, and your General doesn't have Blue, then you can't use that creature.

People TEND to design their deck around the General, but you don't have to...some people just use them for the deck colors.

If a player is dealt 21 or more total (cumulative) damage by a single General, they lose. This sounds harsh, but it's actually a lot harder to get this than you'd think.

Finally, your General has to be a legendary creature =]

I've been playing EDH for some time now and I'm pretty sure it's more 2 colorless mana, not 1, to play each time the Commander dies or whatever...

0

I've heard it both ways to be honest, so I guess it comes down to preference. Personally I think 2 is kinda harsh...especially against certain decks/Generals that can quickly chunk up the cost to play your gen. (Teysa, for example =P)

Yeah I guess "House rules" are best if everybody agrees. I've been playing like that but ok.

http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/EDH

unfortunately, it does cost an extra 2 to play the general each time it dies. I think it would get to ridiculous if it only made it cost an extra 1 for generals that are more of a pain like sheoldred.

Man, I love EDH, I've played it so much it's not even funny anymore.
Only problem? Only general I've ever done well with is Wrexial and Wrexial is a pretty fail general xD

I don't know if you read comments on your old deck, but I think Innistrad has something good for this deck.
Are you perhaps thinking about an update?
I have a very similar EDH deck, not yet posted, and I put in Doomed Traveler instead of Lantern Kami for example.
I haven't yet look at uncommons or rares.

Was looking of ideas for my Teysa deck. Love the deck. Have you considered the new Teysa? Also why soul link instead of vampiric link?

0
Posted 08 August 2013 at 18:27

I have considered her yeah. I just can't find a place I would like to put her in place of things I already have. Also, I used Soul Link because of its wording and its dual "you gain life" clauses, I can use it to shut down one of the opponents' big threats. Also it's both Black and White, which means it has more use for cards that benefit from that.
