Don't pick at it...

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

You might get infected.

Another idea I had for infect. I got all these cards anyway, may as well do something with them right?

**Note: This deck is another in a small group of "subdued" decks I have been making to use for newer players.**

Deck discussion for Don't pick at it...

Looking good. Some things I found useful in an infect deck are Flying, First Strike and Double Strike and Bladed Pinions can give two of the three.
I'm not sure I like there being both Doom Blade and Go for the Throat mainboard, I'd take them up to 4x each and put one in sedeboard.

When you slap a blade of body and mind onto P-crusader...you have all the first strike evasion you could possibly need.

I need to play this deck a bit more to get an idea of which of the two to mainboard and which to sideboard. The problem is, since I made my infect stompy, my friends have been pretty shell-shocked when it comes to infect...so they usually refuse to play "another god damn infect deck". =P

But this deck is nowhere near as bad as most of the professional 3rd-4th turn win standard infect decks.... It doesn't even compare to the Blightsteel infect decks either... *whistles* They're asking for too much! :D

The signal pests don't seem all that useful. Have you considered swapping them for some other cards? They seem helpful but they still cost 1 mana so they wouldn't be good for when infect would be most effective.

Reason I suggested an equipment is so it can go on one of the infecters that don't have flying / first strike. I agree that the rest seems a little off, I'd replace it with Bladed Pinions (or something similar) but that's just me.

How the hell did you ALREADY get all those MBS cards 3 days after the release??? Did you just go and buy 3 boxes???? A case???? which imo is overboard for even the richest MTG collector.

Actually, if you go to 2+ prereleases, you could easily get the cards above. With a little trading, he could acquire even more. I bought a box and split it and the cost with a friend. Paying ~$44 for 18 packs isn't so bad. The prerelease costs a bit more too so i recommend splitting a box to be honest.

Never done a tourney but prizes such as boxes and fat packs? Don't care what the entry fee is or whatever, I should start doing them.

Split in half as $43.825. I let my friend pay $43 because I didn't wanna deal with change. Technically I paid $44.75 but forget the change >_> who cards about 3 quarters... :D

Yea I got a couple of the Crusaders as well, pretty fun card in my infect deck =] I didn't buy a booster box this time around because I was overall fairly disappointed in Besieged (also need to save up some money to get a gift for my girlfriend's birthday coming up), but I did buy 5 packs the other day. Phyrexian Crusader, Phyrexian Hydra, Inkmoth Nexus, Blightsteel Colossus, Sword of Feast and Famine.. Yea, the owner of the store just looked at me a funny look and said "You're not buying anymore packs!" I tend to be very lucky when I decide to buy packs.

Another time I bought 3 Scars packs and pulled Elspeth, Koth (foil, that makes 2 foil koths for meeeee!), Wurmcoil Engine, and Mimic Vat (in the foil koth pack).

Umm.. All I can really say about the deck is Virulent Swipe, great card for the deathtouch rebounding.. +2/+0 is pretty nice as well when you're factoring in the Infect. I would personally drop the Ichor Rats for a few Swipes. That and I've been on a huge Virulent Swipe kick lately.. been throwing it in all my decks that involve black..

I do love Virulent Swipe, but I don't know if I'll add it into the deck. Ichor Rats is great because it forces an infect counter, which sets up Septic Rats and can really do a number when used with Hand of the Praetors out.

Pretty similar to what one of my best friends ran at our last FNM, bastard got first... I think that should say all I need to about this, other than that you should probably tone it down to maybe one of each sword.
We've done heavy testing, and probably just a meta thing, but one of each seems to be optimal.

Why are you using marsh flats? You're just losing life for nothing if inkmoth nexus aren't swamps or plains so, why not replace it with swamps, or something else?

There are a few reasons to run fetchlands in a mono-colored deck. The most frequently cited one is deck thinning, although to be honest recent tests have made me doubt it's usefulness. Being a math major, k will at some point simply run the numbers, but it is a tedious computation.

Deck thinning is not he only reason however. Fetchlands are useful for breaking out of fateseals (very relevent for any Aggro deck). There are a few other, meta-dependent reasons one might run them

Ehhh... not really impressed with the deck mate. You left out some great cards: Stythizxnt the Hard to Spell Dragon, Necropede, Plague Myr to name a few. I don't think mono-b is the way to go, I'm toying with the idea of UB evasive, UB control, BG pump, and WB artifacts. I think all of those options have more potential than mono-black does tbh.

Also, since when is Ichorclaw a 3 of in ANY deck?

i realise you're limited to the cards you own, but i have some suggestions based on a load of testing i did with infect (for tournament quality play).

plague stinger is a 4-of.
phyrexian vatmother is also a 4-of, by a mile. exceptional card.

signal pest is taking up 4 slots for potentially awesome infect beaters just for a measly battle-cry ability... and trust me, vs. most decks they'll be removing as many creatures as they can from the board... you'll be left with one or two and then when you want to draw action you'll get signal pest and sigh heavily to yourself.
remove signal pest. put in 4x necropede or plague myr and you'll thank me.

two other useful cards:
black sun's zenith. ignores protection from black as well as indestructibility. worth it.
contagion clasp. extra removal/shrinkage and a nice proliferate effect. useful.

not the best deck i've seen by a long way, but i understand you're working from cards you own rather than just posting the best deck evarrrr.

To Purkle and ragged, I probably should include this in the deck description...I've recently been making "subdued" decks. It might sound odd, but I geared this deck (and like...4-5 other decks) to be less-than-optimal/unfair. The reason being that I wanted to have a selection of decks that I can:

1) loan to newer players

2) play against newer players

3) take it easy on players with average/below average decks

So this is one of them. =]

The other ones I can think of are Can of Wurms and Checkmate...but I know I'm forgetting one or two =/

0

that's fair enough. i understand the sentiment.

it may be worth putting this in the description though =).

oh and also, from teaching a few of my friends to play, one thing they found necessary to grasp the strategies behind a deck and the basic principles of play, is consistency within the deck they are playing.

for example, if the deck tries to do too many things, it can often be too much to expect a new player to be able to dissect all the uses of the cards in the deck.

with this in mind, i'd still recommend dropping signal pest for necropede. it gives that little bit more consistency in dropping an infect 'dude' and strengthens the main theme of the deck.

hey surewhynot, i was wondering if you had any advice on how to get known or "popular" 'cause i have been making some very good decks and almost no attention. any suggestions or advice for me?

also I really like your decks (i am your 100th follower btw(i thought that was cool)) they are very fun

0

Holy crap! I have 100 followers?! Wow.

I think it's a general 3-part formula.

1) Help people, and they'll help you. I have over 1,500 comments and probably 90% of those are on other people's decks. Offer whatever advice you can, and NEVER post the oh-so-annoying "Cool deck here's mine [~~Link~~]" thing. Find out what decks you are good at giving advice on, and work on those when you see them on the new decks list. The more people see you offering advice, the more they'll comment on your decks. This is THE main thing to follow. The other things are just minor points I've noticed, but this is, I think, the key.

2) Clever deck names seem to work better than "Kuldotha Red version 2.3" It's not a 100% thing, but I think I'm right about this. Now, I just like giving my decks nifty names, so I suppose I lucked out =]

3) This last one is a sort of catch-22 and it's also a bit unfortunate. If you get one of your decks on the Top Decks list, it gets you noticed, and people will start looking at your other decks. =/

Hello Mr. Whynot! It's been a while since I've taken notice of some of your decks... I dunno if it's me not looking or what. But I thought I'd check up on your latest and see what you've been up to.

I like it... Is there a type of deck building that you've been doing (subdued)? Or is it just called "not the best deck I can do, but it's still fun?" :-)

Being a newer player I've got limited cards to choose from and it's hard to justify dropping 20-40 dollars on playsets of the older, more powerful cards. So, seeing decks that are newer, relevant, fun to play with and (relatively) cheap is very refreshing. Well done, dude!

I'm not gonna make any suggestions, since trying to make the deck better is violating the nature of the deck itself.

But I am going to shamelessly promote a deck I've been developing. I think you may like the flavor :-)

As always, well done buddy!

Hey thanks man. Long time no see. And yeah, I've recently come to the realization that a lot of my decks completely slaughter new(er) players and/or "budget-y-er" players. So, I felt like making a few decks to both lend to them and to play against them with that were more "subdued". I'll probably make one or two more, and then see what other stuff I want to do. Maybe an Extraction combo that uses Black Sun's Zenith...If I do it right, I should be able to just...dump their whole deck into exile.

Oh, and I'll give it a look. =]

Extraction using BSZ... Interesting.

I built my girlfriend a monoblack deck that focusing on -1/-1 counters/infect (Clasps, Engines, Fume Spitters, Ichorclaws, Necropedes, Virulent Wounds, etc) out of some spares I had. I thought it would be just OK... then it destroyed me 6 straight games in a row against some of my stronger decks.

I'm looking forward to seeing what your deck will bring to the table, and I may steal some ideas :-)

0

-1/-1 counters are a lot more potent than people think. My Wither deck (improved with BSZ) still kicks the crap out of people!

The idea is to make a ton of 1/1 tokens, then blast them with BSZ and then drop a gigantic Bitter Ordeal. This idea is actually an adaptation of an old type of extraction deck that used Damnation and Bitter Ordeal (sometimes with Tempting Wurm too, the combo was called "Damn Tempting"). I think I might be able to make it run faster with BSZ.

You should also try using Eldrazi Spawn for this Extraction deck! They even can sacrifice on their own! Sounds like fun.:) Plus, Dark Ritual of course is amazing in any black deck that's not restricted to standard. Those two things could help speed it up.:)

Cauldron of Souls will double that Gravestorm too... Is it mono-black?

Because green/black... Cauldron of Souls, Flourishing Defenses, Doubling Season... That would hurt.
