Deck Description

Infuriating tap control deck. Use Aura Finesse to keep the control fueled as well as allowing you to move the auras to the larger threats. Sunblast is just evil.

Ok, serious question. How do you get votes on the "draw sample hand" thingy? I mostly ask because I can't seem to do it for other people's decks and I'd like to know how lol.

Just to the right of the Main Deck box there's a little link that says "draw sample hand" that lets you do just that -- draw a hypothetical hand. However, on some people's decks, I see that there's a rating out of 10 stars (like 5.67/10 stars). Mine just says "not enough votes" next to the stars, which is fine, I just want to know how to vote that way on other people's decks.

0
Posted 08 November 2010 at 21:55

The voting system used to be the average rating between 1 and 10 (stars) from amongst all users who rated the deck. It was just recently changed to to a tally system which tracks the sum of all users who 'like' the deck.

0
Posted 09 November 2010 at 12:47

Addendum: That is likely why some decks have a rating out of 10 stars, and others don't. I suspect that data was preserved when the voting system was changed, but there is no longer an option to rate 1-10 stars. You either like a deck, or you abstain.

Repel the darkness? silence maybe? could could also add a twist of black to add in cards like royal assassin and other black removal.

0

Truth be told I considered adding some black elements to this deck, but it never worked as smoothly as this final product does now. Silence is a no for two reasons: 1) it just doesn't "fit" anywhere. and 2) I'm pretty sure adding Silence to this deck would make my opponent punch me.

If you can afford him, this would benefit from Venser as well. Many of your creatures have 'enter the battlefield' abilities, which you can abuse using Venser's first ability. Imagine attacking with Frost Titan to stun one thing, then bouncing it during your second main phase to tap another one when it returns at the end of turn?

Also would work with Sunblast Angel to wipe their board whenever you feel that's necessary, and any of your auras, since you could then re-equip them to something else as needed.

Why not 4 sleep?

I dunno, I only put 2 in so that I could also have Dissipation Field/Volition Reins. Both of which are just so funny to use on someone. Now that I look at it though, maybe the sleeps would be a good idea.

0

For standard, I would not replace Sleeping Potion with Training Grounds as others have suggested. Terrible idea if you ask me, the /only/ card in the deck that would benefit from it's inclusion is Dawnglare Invoker.

If I were to run this for standard, I'd replace the Dawnglare Invoker entirely. If so, that'd be 8x cards needed to bring the deck back to 60. 3x Venser, the Sojourner, 3x Arrest, and 2x Glimmerpost Stag.

Venser enables you to exile your auras, acting as a reusable Aura Finesse, to exile Sunblast Archangel, Frost Titan, or Glimmerpost Stag to re-trigger their ETB abilities. (Note, when Glimmerpost Stag returns to the battlefield at EOT, his ETB ability triggers, and exiles another target creature until the next ETB step, which would be your opponent's in a 1v1 match.)

This deck, with the suggestions I made, would be a lot of fun to run for FNM, I think :) Of course.. good luck finding a willing opponent :P Would also make for a great deck to run in a game of Emperor ^-^

2

I probably would do something along those lines if I ever wanted to make this standard (which I don't really, but I digress). I have all the stuff to do so, except for the pricey part: The Vensers. I actually pulled 2 Vensers from some packs, one was even foil! But I actually decided to sell them for a TON of other great cards (I sold them basically at the peak of their price spike). Much of this deck was paid for by Venser.

All that aside, I'd have to agree with you that IF I ever got the Vensers to do that, the chances of anyone actually wanting to play me would be very slim.

Wow...Ive read a lot of the suggestions, and honestly, I think this flows just fine the way it is! Adding black flavor might make it a bit more fun. The beauty of this deck is that, despite its uniqueness, you can swap several cards in or out for spice - just to make your own playing more enjoyable. If you don't mind, I totally plan on ripping this idea off and making my own - just to see how it really would slide on a table. B.E.A.utiful!

Hey, by all means. I make post my decks here so that other people can see them and maybe get inspired to build something like it. That's also why I try to build decks that some might call "different", because those might get newer players thinking too. So in all honesty, I think the greatest compliment I can get towards one of my decks is someone "blatantly ripping it off".

Cheers man!

The problem is that you are going to need so much mana to tap all their creatures and then spawn Sunblast Angel. Otherwise, it would be so fun not letting them do shit (Y)

0

Nah, it's not really a problem. They can't do anything turn after turn while I keep building up defenses and mana. >=}

0

Why not run some slivers, just to make it even more evil. Telekinesis Sliver would overload your tapping power. Adding that sliver that allows you to put the top card of an opponents library on the bottom would simply make your opponent want to kill you (not in the game). Adding in some of those changelings that make a creature all creature types would also make the deck over charged.

Would it not be better to incorporate some tumble magnets in this deck for tapping enemy creatures down, especially the big threats and then using your sunblast angel as a bouncing board sweeper with Venser as the springboard for that, just an observation

0
Posted 18 November 2010 at 10:21

Tumble Magnet is just too unreliable in my opinion. What do I do if it runs out? Now the answer to that and some other tricks might be Venser, sure, but I don't own any Vensers. I had two, but sold them when Venser was at his peak price. Much of this deck and a number of my other decks' more expensive cards are paid for in large part because of those Vensers.

And now I'm just plain flat out of stuff to really buy or trade for much of anything else, especially Venser. So I'd say don't expect a whole lot more decks from me for a while, and don't expect to see Venser in this deck. Even if I did have him...not sure if I'd put him in here to be honest.

This is a sick deck man! I would reccomend Repel the Darkness, probably in place of the Invoker. IMO its ability is simply too expensive to be practical, while Repel the Darkness ets you tap two and draw a card. Blinding Beam is also a sweet card, though I dunno what you would remove for it.

0
Posted 22 November 2010 at 15:44

I tried Repel the Darkness and was just plain not impressed by it. Maybe others will have more luck with it. That of course is my favorite part of this deck -- It has a general skeleton, but has some "slots" that people can take other cards to mix and match however they want to play it.

I personally love Dawnglare. I've rarely had a problem controlling long enough to get her ability active. And once I do...It's basically game over. =]

Ya, I know what you mean. I was thinking of building a deck like this and keep goig "what if I played x instead of y..." All in all, your choices are boss though, my current deck based on this theme is very obviously based off of yours. A nice sideboard card might be Fulgent Distraction. Although its a bit costly to use as a main card, I'm almost forced to sideboard 4 of them, since my casual group has someone with a rediculous equipment deck. He actually claims the Cat equipment deck I have posted here was his insperation, but he's got much more access to older cards than I do (four Loxodon War hammers? sure... I have them sitting around somewhere. Why dont we both add a playset to our equip decks?). Were in college so buying cards is something we try to avoid whenever possible (most my decks on here are on the cheap side for that reason).

Wow, that was a long tangent :P

Also, whats your opinion on Ice Cage vs Sleeping Potion?

0
Posted 22 November 2010 at 16:31

From afar they do the exact same thing. However up close, they vary slightly...

Ice cage is good for containing creatures with scary activated abilities that can still harm you if they were tapped by Sleeping Potion. An example is the card Obsidian Fireheart.

Sleeping Potion is good because it taps the creature. That's an obvious bonus for this deck, but outside of this deck, it's good because even if your opponent manages to get it off the creature, that creature is still tapped, where as with Ice Cage it can attack right away. I've had many opponents enchant or equip their creature to get Sleeping potion off, only to have me drop a Sunblast Angel the next turn. (lulz ensue)

I was reading the comment from Dacenguy, a couple posts above and I too would like to see what you might do with black added in. Way back in November, when this deck was being featured, it actually inspired me to make a B/W version. Reading his comment made me realize that I never did finish it - so here it is: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=126333

As always sir, thank you for the inspiration!

Ever thought about using Venser, the Sojourner in this deck? I have a feeling he would synergise well with your Sunburst Angel (being able to bounce it every turn to constantly destroy tapped creatures), Frost Titan, Kor Hookmaster, and (I'm pretty sure this works) for moving your enchantments from one creature to another, all during your turn.
Plus, once his -8 is out, you can just exile any major threats that require more than just a tap, including Land! :D

Maybe I just like Venser's sideburns too much. D:
