Deck discussion for Look Ma! No hand!

Now this is just plain NASTY.
Have you considered splashing for some enchantment hate though? A turn 0 Leyline of Sanctity is just cruel against decks such as this.

Never had that happen to be quite honest. If it does, I'll be sure to fix my sideboard accordingly. Glad you like this one.

You need to put Leyline of Anticipation in here! That way you can discard before they can even play cards...

Have you thought of using the rack? It's a very nice 1 cost artifact that absolutely PUNISHES top-deck players if your quests dont come out

Dude.....this deck makes me want to cry. If I fought this, I'd be pissed. I draw a card, lose 2 life, discard it, lose 2 life, have no cards, lose 5 life, and cry. That last one is just for shits and giggles

The third Hymn has my favorite artwork of the four ^-^ You also have my two favorite specters!

I used to run a similar deck before I traded my Bloodchief Ascensions. I never thought to run Temple Bell in there though! I might have to pull the deck back out, wherever it is, and update it a bit :)

wow swn, ive been looking for a discard deck to build... anything i can change to make it a little bit less wallet emptying? (i only have 1 liliana and i am NOT wasting $50 on another)

0

Well lucky for you, she's only $35. If you don't want to spend tons, you can remove Lili and Verdant Catacombs (together they're worth about $100), replace them with swamps and probably two Liliana's Specter. Thoughtseize can be replaced with Duress if you don't already have them, and Bitterblossom with, maybe, another two Specters (or use three Specter's and your 1 Liliana). That'll cut around $150-200 from the current price.

This seems half slow. I know there's dark rits, but besides that you're looking at around turn 3-4 where you really get anything off.
You could try adding some chrome moxes of some sort, or just spreading out the curve.
it seems like you have no real answer to creatures in this deck, though. you have 2 liliana, 6 blockers and that's it, really.
also I feel like there are too many enchantments really based towards somebody discarding rather than the discard itself.

i'd really just ditch the temple bell, haunting echos, painful quandary (I love the card, but 5 mana is just too slow), bloodchief ascension and also quest for the nihil.
this deck seems really suicidal, i'd swap up the thoughtseizes for either duresses or inquisition of kozileks. with such low answers to creatures, i feel any life you could preserve would really help you out in the long run.

for card draw you could try sign in blood. that has really good synergy with underworld dreams. BB deal 4 damage. and it helps you out, as well.

for removal there are cards like smallpox, innocent blood, dismember, spinning darkness... the list goes on, I'm sure you're well aware.

mainly I'd be worried about getting speed on the opponent. mox diamond, chrome mox, any cards like that could help you get a faster start. but honestly the only enchantment I can see you really needing is liliana's caress. besides that I'd be worrying about the discard itself.
if you find you're playing out your hands really fast, ensnaring bridge could help. or anything form of hand restoration.

how do you find this runs, on a regular basis? and is it competitive or casual? all my advice was for competitive lol.

also the rack might be a card to look into as a win con if you find yourself short on them.

0

Haha, this is just a "business casual" deck. Just mostly made to piss people off =P

It does have weaknesses, but it works well for just a nice casual discard. If I'm looking to use discarding competitively then I'm just going to rock PAL =]

Poxtraction Aggrolock = PAL

It's the other main type of Extraction other than Iso-Seek...and pretty much the current one I run with.

And I suppose by "discard" with PAL I really mean "rip your deck a new asshole" =P

hahaha I see, I see :O

can you name off some cool black cards? I don't know what sets to browse through, and I'm looking for just under-the-rader black utility spells.
like a black bounce spell would be amazing lol.

0
Posted 19 December 2011 at 22:14

Pretty sure there aren't any mono-B bounces...There's a B/U one called Recoil =/

Under the radar...hrm. Well Diabolic Edict isn't too under, but I have to mention it. Nether Void can make or break a deck. Recurring Nightmare hasn't seen play in a while, but it's an old favorite =P

I've seen a losing game against Fish turned completely around with Sudden Spoiling. Chains of Mephistopheles doesn't get the love I think it deserves...I might be bias, or it might be how convoluted the card is =P

Engineered Plague is a good one...any of the tutors or 'kill' spells seem to be undervalued at times.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, but those are some off the top of my head.

Also, Ethan, I think you might have missed Bitterblossom. Your suggestions were all good, but BB does, at least, help with the creature "weakness".

chains is a really nice card! I actually really like underworld dreams. I might have to find a home for that card. :O
I want to make a mono black deck that's still fast enough to use cards over 4cvc, but can slowwww the game down. I'm a real fan of prison decks, so never know where that might go.
liliana is just so good. getting my play set this weekend!

and dag, i didn't really miss bb, but I kind of overlook it at times. hehehehe

Well, you can get a start by looking at this deck of Arty's that I posted a while back. It levels out at 4...but it's kinda what you're lookin for =]

Oulala, I loveeeee prison. But although arty would disagree with me, I find jace to be my favourite win con. I mean he bounces threats AND draws cards AND wins the game? c'mon thats sick.

0
Posted 20 December 2011 at 02:20

I think the point he always tries to make about Jace is that a deck should never feel like two decks -- One "56 card deck" that is just mediocre, and another "4 card deck" consisting of the Jaces. That goes for any really good card honestly.

I see both sides of the argument really. Yes Jace is god damn powerful, and in Standard, flat out overpowered as balls...thus he was banned (too late, but I digress -_-). He obviously can be a huge asset to a number of decks. But to every deck? No, no way. And that's the other side of the argument. It's kinda dumb to think that slapping a deck together and adding 4 Jaces will make it good.

Now, I know you understand that, but as for a guy who exclusively plays Prison/Control...you can see how it could get irritating to see player after player who is not like you and DOES do that =/

0
Posted 20 December 2011 at 02:45

Oh i don't feel he belongs in every deck, but to me a deck that wants total field control at a painfully slow rate seems like jace's perfect home. It just makes sense to me.

I can totally see where he's coming from, but I mean, I'd risk him grinding his teeth at my card selections should selection prove to win me the game. You know? ;P

Haha well I'm glad you have faith in me to put such a card to good use!

Also, how do you feel about 'the rack'? I love that card, so much. I think it has such potential... just not yet. With liliana it ALMOST got there, but it needs a bit more.

The Rack is a great card man, I've always liked it. It's actually very similar to Nihil Stone, but with clear differences at the same time. It's hard to say which one is better...It might take some fun math shenanigans =]

I like that you have to force them to draw cards so that you can discard them again.

Not to bother you... But could you take a look at one of my decks? It's a serious tournament deck and I want some advice before I buy the rest of the cards that I need for it.

Hey. Nice touch posting all 4 Hymn arts. I unfortunately only own 2 Hymns, the wolf and the circle.

Alright, bad joke time: There's only a One Wolf Moon because he discarded the other two...

I feel ashamed of that joke already. I apologize profusely.

I think that mortivore would add some needed battlefield firepower. Even though this deck has minimal creatures, this big fat would assist megrim in getting the job done.

Man I love this deck, I built this a couple days ago just for fun and man, my friends still aren't talking to me. Mono colored decks are seriously underestimated and this proves everyone wrong. My mono black zombie deck is one of my best decks. You know why? Mono black or mono any color is dominant because you dont need to mana fix, so when you take out your orzohv and boros signets and replace them with dark rituals. Can you say first turn Army of the Damned? That's a two turn win, Jace ain't got nothing on me. Lol
