Deck Description

The Goal: Make an EDH deck themed around Chess. Both colors in the same deck, with Vish Kal presiding over the game as judge. Kings are Darien and King Macar, Queens are Akroma, Phage, Elesh, and Ashling (Who may become Sheoldred.) Outside of these, most of the cards represent some facet of the game of Chess, with cards like Attrition and Diversionary Tactics, and Defense Grid and Grand Abolisher preventing players from taking actions when it is not their turn. Possibly adding in Silent Arbiter and Angelic Arbiter for extra "one move a turn" flavor. The secondary theme of the deck is playing with the fact that there are many mirror cards printed in black and white, such as Kor Chant/Dirge, Spirit/Vampiric link, Black/White Knight, Knight of Infamy/Glory, etc.

Currently I am looking for more cards to represent Rooks, as well as suggestions for nonbasic lands. If you have any ideas, I am all ears. Also, the only multicolored card will be Vish Kal.

How to Play

No serious combos here, just a pretty straightforward Black/white dudes deck. Flava points if you can put a both kings, two queens, four Bishops, four knights, four rooks, and 16 pawns down at once.

Deck discussion for Checkmate

Awesome deck idea! I love this, a game within a game!
Hmmm... Let me see...

Lands seem to be the easiest to start off with, in any case. Command Tower, Reliquary Tower, Tower of the Magistrate, Tainted Field, Cathedral of War and Contested War Zone I feel fit the flavor of this deck.

Enchantments: Malevolent Awakening fits the theme of the deck since you can sacrifice the "pawns" to return any piece to your hand to be replayed on the board, and Martyr's Bond could be a light combo piece to accentuate it. Not to mention Martyr's Bond is a pretty good reflection of 'acceptable losses' and trading pieces.

Creatures: Banisher Priest is a nifty little creature that could make for a good Bishop in White, as would Beloved Chaplain. For Black, thee could be Cabal Executioner or Entomber Exarch. For Rooks, it really seems as if walls might work, such as Cathedral Membrane/Corpse Blockade, or Wall of Hope/Wall of Souls.

Artifacts: Tower of Calamities/Tower of Champions are interesting possibilities.

Thank you sir! Those are all glorious recommendations. The only things I don't really like are the Walls, but that's kind of because I find Walls as a whole rather boring.
