Deck Description

This is my experiment, take the deck I love (8-rack) and try to make it into as competitive a deck as possible. This variant splashes red (although, the land base makes it look like more than a splash...) for bolts which are multipurpose in that they can race OR remove threats, and the strange choice of Bonfire of the Damned. Bonfire is so strong in this deck, because your practically forcing yourself into a top-deck game, and there is no better top deck when racing an opponent than a bonfire. Even for one or two, the bonfire will level the playing field, ravaging the ever-present Dark Confidants and Snapcasters. All in all, this build is fun.

How to Play

Well, the idea is to put them in top deck using your plethora of discard spells, initiate the rack, and wait for them to die. To prevent yourself from dying, you put up an Ensnaring bridge and burn all of their creatures alive, or even better, burn them alive. It's all up to you and the scenario you create.

Deck discussion for B/R 8-Rack Proactive/Reactive

Okay. Seen you bragging (sorta) about you discard deck skills.
Umm...why are you running Ensnaring Bridge but have no self discard cards?

And Nihil Stone...you seem to like the Rack over Nihil Stone.
Is it because you play Modern?

It is not a fair match...because the deck I suggest isn't Modern...but test this deck out against one of your discard decks.
It is my friend's discard deck.
He has beaten me over 20 times with it.

Proxy it against one of yours. You will see why I ask why you have no self discard cards and why you prefer the Rack over Nihil Stone:

http://www.mtgvault.com/magiccontroller/decks/meanest-multi-discard/

True...that is a Vintage/Legacy deck and your deck is Modern.
However, his deck is under 140 bucks.
Your deck is almost 900 bucks.

So...i think it is a fair match.
Here is a challenge, I rarely brag on decks. But i am bragging on his deck, because it has utterly destroyed me (sometimes 3 or more games in a row). And notice how his Guiltfeeder gets past your (and his) Ensnaring Bridge. And how he has self mill cards like Delirium Skeins.

Heh, not bragging on my "skills" so to say, I'm simply stating I play a hell of a lot of discard... Been doing it for years, it just feels more accurate than countering things blindly. So to start off my analysis of your comment (which was insightful, thank you), the reason for not running self discard is simple resource allocation. In the scenario that I do indeed need to discard cards, it is notable that any of the discard spells label target player, not target opponent. Many times I have Wrench Minded myself to hit the Ensnaring bridge quota. This deck in particular is indeed modern, if I were playing legacy/vintage, it would not be approachable in the same regard due to the metagame being so different... the Rack is not exactly a great finisher there against competitive builds. Regardless of all that, I like your friends deck. It's a true black discard, and I love that sort of thing. My French EDH plays a lot like it, just with a large dosage of reanimation on the side.
The deck you see before you is only expensive because of 12 cards really, heh, and there are actually "budget" options for them. For instance, Liliana of the Veil, who accounts for 280 dollars of the deck's value, is easily replaced with Necrogen Mists, which only faults in that it can't be used as an Edict. The marsh flats, which absorb 140 dollars of the burden, can just be Sulphrous springs.

Thanks for the comment, it's good to get some sort of feedback (any, really) on a creation.

Oh, and sorta as a post-script, the reason I prefer the Rack to Nihil Stone is because of the late-game viability of the individual cards. In a 13th turn top-deck, the Rack is FAAAAAR superior. Besides, Nihil Stone is absolutely useless against Affinity, my worst match-up.

Oh, and sorta as a post, post script, the lightning bolts I use are beta... so they're worth a pretty penny a well.

Your reasoning makes sense.
I play casual...so never played tourneys or an affinity deck.

Was just stating that the deck I sent you...that is the only guy I play Magic against. And his discard deck is brutal. lol. I hate when he brings it out to play.

I appreciate your well thought out response. I love, it is awesome, when I disagree with a certain deck...and the person explains why the deck is as it is. All of your reasoning was very logic. Thanks :)

Not sure how it has done it. But I built a 15 dollar deck. It wasn't meant to try and beat his discard deck...but somehow it ended up being undefeated against it. In other words, the 15 dollar deck is 4-0 against his discard deck.

Deck in question:

As you pride yourself on discard (rightly so, looking at how solid your discard decks are) I pride myself in bounce. The above deck link, I hope, shows that.

Here is to hoping you get more views/comments/likes/suggestions on your deck(s)!

I have old beta Chain Lightning. 4 of them...but alas, no Lightning Bolts that old. Ouch, they are 45 dollars a piece! Yep, there is 180 dollars of the deck's total worth :)

No wait...the Chain Lightning...they are black bordered...but they are Legends, not Beta.
My bad :(

Actually, I'm quite jealous of that... chain lightning is among my favorite red spells. It's a very, very fun card to cast... it has the potential to become quite destructive.

Edit: Still, jealous, my chain lightning are the most current reprint. :P

Since you love discard...and the idea of chain lightning being passed back and forth...what are your thoughts of Blackmail?

That friend of mine, mentioned above, he casts blackmail on me I NEVER send it back to him. lol. I am not that dumb!

I have tried to make the 8-rack deck work for months and never pushed it into competitive game play. Red splash looks interesting but i would recommend blightning because it is so good. I still dont feel that 8-rack is great. It beats burn and twin easily but loses to so many other decks

It actually has pretty favorable matches, suprisingly, but requires a dedicated player to play it... The problem with this sort of deck is it requires intensive metagaming. I, for one, like that sort of thing and make it work. I have favorable matchup with my current version, which you can find on my page (GB 8-Rack), with Fish, Storm, Bloom Titan, Control, Burn, Jund, Living End, Ad Nauseam, and other decks of that nature. I go fifty-fifty with affinity, but fight uphill battles with Tron. It's very well suited for the meta as long as you can play it properly. The GB deck has, currently, a competitive win lose of 15-5, which I think justifies my position.
