Deck Description

This is my type two deck as it currently stands with Born of the Gods. It is based around an older deck I produced back in the day, but revolutionized in terms of proportions with Paul Rietzel's performance back in Pro Tour Theros. The concept is to act like a White Weenies deck early game, but then dominate the mid-game with black threats such as Desecration Demons. The current meta isn't really used to this version of W/B, and I have found it straight up kills Mono-Blue devotion, pummels control, and fairs well against mono-black. It's true weakness is Colossal Gruul, but I've noticed it has a decline in popularity recently, so I think it's time for a resurgence. I'm looking for opinions on how to improve this deck to its maximum potential. Got any?

How to Play

The concept is simple: if the midrange deck can start setting itself up first turn, its a pretty dangerous threat. In particular, a first turn Thoughtseize or Soldier of the Pantheon is a devastation, and when you can back them up with removal and beaters, it turns pretty ugly. The primary idea is to set up a Desecration Demon, but let's be honest, which black deck isn't trying to do that?

Deck discussion for Orzhov Midrange Type 2

Hey! looks pretty good! I have been running a VERY similar deck myself recently with tons of success. One suggesting I have is to switch out a couple desecration demons for more blood barons, while this may seem dumb, It will really help your mono black and aggro match ups. You can then also take out dark betrayal from your sideboard for more doom blades against R/G devotion.

I realize you have dark betrayal in there to replace doom blade against black, but blood baron is so infinitely more problematic to W/B decks than deso is when you have weenies to back it up that you should be able to do fine with slightly less removal.
Hope that helps, good luck!

It is an interesting point, I did run quite a few more blood barons to help out with mono-black, but every time I drew into him, he got flatlined by either Erebos' passive or a devour flesh, after they adjusted their removal, of course. The Dark Betrayals for Doom blades is an interesting idea, but I don't know, I get decimated by Nightveil Specters :P I'll playtest your suggestions and return with findings.

heres a deck I placed first with a few times. I guess I was running a lot more weenies than you though, which is what made devour flesh a dead card. Oh! and Elspeth also wrecks R/G's whole world between her +1 and -3, only stormbreath dragon can get anything on her edgewise. Lastly Imposing sovereign can just give you such great tempo its astonishing.

My comments may not actually be the most helpful now since BotG came out and I abandoned the idea (due to drown in sorrow and Bile Blight, they just made my deck obsolete) but assuming not too much changes in the format, they should be alright. Hope it helps! good luck!
