Heartless Lich Combo Deck (Sta..

by TubaHero on 10 February 2012

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Sorceries (3)

Artifacts (3)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Combo deck with Heartless Summoning. The combo's:

If I have 1 HS out, Perilous Myr becomes a Shock. With Havengul Lich, one mana = one Shock.

If I have 2 HS out, Solemn is a free land and draw. With Havengul Lich, one mana = one land and draw.

I have no idea what I want to do with the sideboard though, except I know that I need to get ride of Grafdiggers Cage which negates letting me play spells from my graveyard. Suggestions/comments would be really appreciated!

Deck discussion for Heartless Lich Combo Deck (Standard)

sword of feast and famine, UNTAP ALL LANDS

Sword can be risky in this deck since you've only got 2 creatures that aren't automatically dead due to Heartless summoning and you definitely don't want your Lich dieing.

Think I'd replace the think twice's with forbidden alchemy, quick way to get Myr or Solemn into your graveyard (best case scenario ^^)

The thing is that Myr has to be moved into the graveyard from the battlefield so it wont trigger.
Dont know of Simulacrum if does he actually "die" when discarded, I think not eather.

Consider removing a couple of Alchemies.

I would like you all guys to comment on my EDH deck I built recently.

We know but since your using Lich to recycle them forbidden alchemy is a great searcher turn 3 forbidden with any luck get your lich and dump a myr and solemn turn 4 cast lich (with heartless out) and since myr and Solemn are both in GY you can start recycling them

throw in priest of urabrask and devils play. if you have heartless and lich out with them in hand its an infinte fireball

I made a similar deck, but with red as a third color. Red lets you play Priest of Urabrask, which lets you make infinite mana with a lich and summoning in play. Red also has more answers for grafdigger's cage: manic vandal and ancient grudge being the best choices. Here it is if you want to take a look:

With red you can also have Goblin Arsonist which can infinite ping if you have a priest and a havengul as well as HS out =P

Doesn't the Lich make it so you can cast it from the graveyard? As in you still have to pay the mana for the creature just that you can now cast it from the graveyard as if it was in your hand?

Heartless Summoning makes my creatures cost 2 less, so perilous myr is free and solem costs 2 with a HS out.

it doesnt work that way with arsonist. he cost 2 colorless less to play. his cmc is one red mana. so u still have to pay it. it makes stuff like a titan that originally is 4 and 2 white or 4 and 2 red become 2 and 2 of their color. colored mana costs are unaffected by heartless.

0

it does if you have priest of urubask and a single red mana. pay 1 colorless and 1 red play the priest, he dies you get 3 red mana, two to play him again and 1 to play arsonist

well it looks pretty cool man. how about instead of mana leak replace it with a kill spell or corpse lunge. reason being with all the fast big fattys and mana ramp mana leak is becoming less effective, but it is still super badass.

Havengul Lich with perilous Myr can kill most of the big stuff in play right now by turn 4 3 mana out and pyrilous myr can be brought back 3 times for 6 damage with kills titans and that's just after turn 3.

Absolutely not. He wants them to continually return to the graveyard for the Lich to use.

And perhaps some darkslick shores instead of all those basic lands. What's the finisher btw? I feel like you need some hard hitters instead of relying on perilous myrs.

Necropede would give you basically infinite -1/-1 counters. It'd be great for killing off their creatures, or comboing here with undying if you wanted. It's a large combo, but:

Heartless, Havengul, Necropede, and Geralf's Messenger is a pretty funny kill combo.

Hm just realized how sensitive this deck is.. If I keep all my creature removal to target your Havengul with you're screwed. Maybe you need something like Gravepurge? That can also counter stuff like Surgical Extraction which would mess you up big time.

0

Awesome deck! Such a great idea! I might recommend adding a few undying evils (insurance for your lich). Also, could you use Midnight Guards at all? It seems nice with all the creatures entering your battlefield. also, I know your deck isn't red, but it seems worth splashing so that you can add in a "Flayer of the Hatebound"

Might want to up the mental misteps to 4 cause I can see Surgical Extraction causing hugh problems otherwise.

So, if lich dies, is surgically extracted, thats game? What if someone has nevermore in their sb? Idk, just seems like a lot relying on one card that has multiple ways to screw with it in this rotation...

don't you guys see...the Lich says," pay 1 and you may cast target creature from a graveyard THIS TURN." If you have a Heartless Sumoning out, the Perilous Myr costs the initial 1 and then can be cast an infinite amount of times because his casting cost is 0. And because he imidiately goes to the graveyard because of the -1/-1, it's infinite damage. Am I missing something?

0
Posted 17 February 2012 at 01:31

yes u are missing. the exact wording is u may cast TARGET CREATURE blah blah blah. because the lichs ability actually makes u target a creature, u would target ur myr. u would then cast him. after u cast him it checks and sees that u have resolved the ability by casting him. therefore when he comes in and dies u will have to pay the 1 because u will have to target the individual creature.

I think mental misstep should be 4x and maybe main board 2. That card can effectively eliminate a lot of major dangers this deck could face. Its counters gravediggers cage, nihil spellbomb, extraction, the three most portent disruption this deck could face. A good dissipate can also stop your comboing cold, but thats not til turn 3 and only exiles 1 of your cards. So i personally think mental misstep is the best all around counter for this deck. Not to mention it can mess with weenie decks.

Also i think you should run some extractions yourself. You can remove copies of problem cards after you counter them and kill them with myr. As for dismember i think you could do with out it. Its a great card but with all your counters, myr, and tragic slip. Doomblade or GftT is much better suited of this deck. As for distress I'm not really liken it. Sure it can remove dangers form the opponents hand at will, but it is just very difficult to cast(when running more colors than just black). Unless you add some darkslick shores or more black mana i would try and lower the number of them or just find something else completely.

Finally i think you should run a wider variety of main board instants. You effectively can cast any instant/sorcery card in you deck twice with your combos. So why bother with 4 ofs? But I mean, you do get more consistent draws when have 4 of a copy so its up to i guess. lol.

Nice deck i like it a lot.

I really think you should run a couple of jace memory adepts in this deck. Mill yourself or your opponent to fill the graveyards with lich targets. the beauty of lich is that he can Target both gyards.

Gotta love decks that use Havengul Lich.
Check my deck out. Its not combo focused, but pretty consistent.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=298462

it uses Lich, Snapcaster, but splash into red for burning vengeance. (no, its not priest+heartless+devils play deck - trying to make a different focused one).
So each time you summon your snapcaster, you draw twice (secrets of the dead), and you damage twice (burning Vengeance).

Grats on your deck,

Sheoldred would be fun to play in here. The same goes for massacre wurm, great way of dealing with all the token strategies out there!

I like your suggestion of Sheoldred, and I have added it in! I'm not too worried about tokens since those decks dont run a lot of removal so I think my matchup against them is strong enough as it is.

I just noticed Cloud of Fairies goes infinite with one HS and Lich, since the land untap lets you pay both the Lich and the Fairies repeatedly. There are probably better ways to obtain infinite storm (and it's not like storm helps in standard), but I like that whenever you stop the last Fairies activation still leaves you with your lands untapped.

Hmmmm
Try this one
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=298797

its not combo based, but if you land a gravecrawler + grimgrin + diregraf captain + rooftop storm = infinite dmg triggers and an infinite/infinite creature.

also Im using lich just in case they nuke grimgrin or diregraf from tabble.

and if combo dont show up... no problem, I still can win with creatures no problem.

Well, dif deck, dif strategy, but still worth to take a look.

Grats on your deck also.

you dont need grimgrin if you do diregraf + gravecrawler + rooftop storm + heartless summoning ( truly infinite combo )

Looks better now, though i disssagree with shimmering grotto. If your worried about getting the right mana, then add darkslick shores. Sheoldred is a nice backup win-con, but I would peronally reccomend wurmcoil engine over sheoldred. Wurmcoil has more raw damage output and gains you tonnes of life.

Couldn't you put some Rune Scarred Demons in here? they become 2 drop 3/3 flyers that tutor for anything you need like a Sheoldred or something. If you can find room they'd be pretty amazing. To be honest I don't think Solemn Simulacrum shines in this deck. Fetching land and drawing cards does nothing to this deck since you don't need mana ramp with heartless summoning. And quite frankly, you'll never pull of the 2x Heartless Summoning + Lich + Solemn combo. I recommend taking him out and fill the space up with more control cards like despise and mental misstep. Even Vapor Snag would be a good option. Hope that helped =)

I would replace shimmering grotto with evolving wilds in this deck. You can crack the evolving wild in response to the end of your opponents turn, gain the land, and also have a reshuffle in case your not getting what you need. The grotto is okay, but evolving wilds would be better for this deck.

What you want in this deck is a way to get out your entire combo. If your lacking the necessary cards, ponder does help.
The thing about this deck now is that its no longer standard, and its illegal in modern because of ponder. If this doesn't bother you, carry on. Otherwise, consider these additions.

First of all, Priest of Urabrask. With him in your deck, you have infinite mana, therefore infinite shocks.
Harvester of Souls. 6 drop 5/5 (or was he 4/4?) with deathtouch and "When ever a creature dies, you -->may<-- draw a card". Theres your card draw. And just in case you were afraid to mill yourself out, its a may ability.
Runescarred Demon is a 7 drop 6/6 that allows you to search your deck for a card, also has flying. If the card draw isn't helping you out, definitely consider this card for that extra search power.
I understand your running B/U, but consider R as well, for Devil's play. Priest of urabrask + devil's play + heartless summoning = infinite damage (if theres no myr in your graveyard).
"But Tri-color is crazy risky", I know, I know. But thats also why you have fetch lands from your Solemn Simulacrum. And if that isn't enough, add in a Chromatic Lantern or two.

Hope I helped.
