Deck Description

Festering Angel

How to make creatures and make brouhaha without needing to attack, but a decent midrange game just incase.

How to Play

Start with the Festering Newt, get out your Bubbling Cauldron, and then add Gift of Immortality. Sacrifice, then let it return for free, then repeat.
NOTE: Always check your opponent by declaring or skipping your attack phase before pulling off this trick... he could try to destroy your sacrificed Newt before the return effect of Gift of Immortality kicks in on your end phase. For this, just Thoughtseize his deck to see and remove those threats.
Next, use either Sanguine Bond to direct-damage your opponent or Angelic Overlord to overwhelm the enemy forces.

Deck discussion for Festering Immortals

Please help this deck and see if there is anything I can do to make this better... Ashen Rider on first pull... AWESOME! LOL

Not to sounds unhelpful, but Ashen Rider is waaaaay too fat (high cmc). Probably run something like Blood Baron of Vizkopa or Archangel of Thune instead.

Sorry I can't be of much more help. ^_^'

I thought of that, and Blood Baron of Vizkopa requires that you get the enemy to 10 life before Flying and +6/6 happens, I thought Ashen Rider had better use under this strategy as a more devastating and more effective card if the enemy had better options.

Plus, Gift of Immortality allows him to die and be brought back to the battlefield, and his ability triggers both ways!

I agree that Ashen Rider's effects are destructive... but are you going to get to your Turn 8 (assuming you get a land each turn) to summon Ashen Rider to remove only 2 permanents?

As I say, wish I was more helpful... but I do know that Ashen Rider would be alright if you get that far in to late game.

You have a point, plus, I do plan on trying to keep my creatures around more often. The Agent of the Fates card does a similar effect turn 3 or 4, but on creatures. But with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Liliana for backup, I should be able to get there sooner than turn 8... maybe.

My FNM will determine which I add... I will swap out a few cards for Blood Baron of Vizkopa and see what happens.
Thanks for your help man, and for the good talks.

No problem. But you might be right, especially with the Gift of Immortality. But if you are basing most of your game on that card, surely 4 of it would be best?

And good luck with the play testing. Let me know if it goes well either way. :)

Check my deck if you want: http://www.mtgvault.com/tkt97054/decks/shadowborn-v2/

Probably a load of rubbish, but any suggestions to help polish this up would be great.

You said you could use some ideas for midrange, right?
Desecration Demon is not only a great card, but it could help Angelic Overlord overwhelm your opponent even faster!
Plus, it's still Standard.

#my 400th comment!!

Gratz! Actually, I think that Abhorrent Overlord (I think that is the one your referring to) is a great idea (even though he is still a 7 cmc) since you can sacrific creatures on the upkeep of your turn, which would help trigger the enchanted creature.

My mistake with the reference.

I just updated this deck; I removed Ashen Rider and added Blood Baron of Vizkopa. I added Baleful Eidolon to get more two-drop cards in there early on.

If you're playing white/black I'm gonna recommend that you play Obzedat with Whip of Erebos. Obzedat's effect trumps whip exiling him, so he still exiles at end of turn but he always comes back at your next upkeep. Obze is pretty cheap and whip is dirt cheap so it shouldn't add too much to the cost.

Also, 4 Nykthos is overkill imo. It's a legendary land, so you can only have one out at a time anyway so it's almost like you're playing 21 land right now instead of 24. If you're relying on it that much though I wouldn't drop to less than 2 of them, and 3 might not be terrible if you really need to get to it. You have plenty of lifelink to make Read the Bones worth it too, meaning you can sift through your deck more and need fewer copies of Nykthos.

Cool, man. Thanks for the help... Whip of Erebos is better run than Gift of Orzhova, but If I do that, I would need to add flyers to replace it... thanks for the input...

Even though it doesn't really go with the flow of the deck, I would suggest you swap the Blightcasters for Lifebane Zombies, Disciple of Phenax or Gray Merchant of Asphodel. This is because Blightcaster requires you to CAST the enchantment for it to do -2/-2. Since gift of immortality is not cast from the graveyard (it just gets reattached), then you won't get the unlimited benefit, while the ones that I suggested are triggers for creatures entering the battlefield.

Thanks. Now I feel comfortable with my gameplan. It seems Agent of the Fates just distracted me from my gameplan.

Thanks, man. Gotta fav your posts!

Redid it to be more focused on gameplay, added my second Obzedat... I actually have four of him at home... lol! But I needed Desecration Demon... he looks like a winner and I hope to get him in FNM matches every single match!
