Deck Description

I have always enjoyed playing Pirates in standard, ever since the release of the Ixalan block. I currently have Rakdos Pirates in paper, but wanted to try something new. I found a Dimir Pirates list online, and made a couple of substitutions that I thought would better go up against the current standard metagame.

Constructive comments are greatly appreciated, as different perspectives help build more competitive decks.

How to Play

- Unlike the mono-blue aggro deck, focuses on Pirate creatures with built-in evasion to activate Curious Obsession's card draw trigger, and give us an incentive to attack on our combat phases. Most of the creatures in this deck are pirates, enabling us to play Lookout's Dispersal which is basically a better Mana Leak.

- Curious Obsession also gives us more opportunities to draw into cards that protect our creatures, such as Dive Down, Lookout's Dispersal, Kitesail Freebooter, and Siren Stormtamer. Since I haven't played this deck in paper yet, I am not sure if I should enchant payoff creatures such as Thief of Sanity or utility creatures such as Kitesail Freebooter and Warkite Marauder when given the choice, but feel free to leave your opinion in the comment section.

- Some lists include 2-4 copies of Opt, Chart a Course, Discovery//Dispersal, or some other 1-2 mana consistency draw spell, but I decided to include 4 copies of Thief of Sanity and mainboard 2 Deadeye Tracker as a way to effectively deal with Arclight Phoenix/graveyard shenanigan archetypes. It is also important to note that Thief of Sanity can steal cantrips from our opponent, and Deadeye Tracker can get us lands more quickly; both of these cards boost consistency and increase our odds against popular archetypes.

- Dive Down, Lookout's Dispersal, and Siren Stormtamer allow us to protect Thief of Sanity and Kitesail Freebooter, along with any other creatures enchanted with Curious Obsession.

- From my experience, typically after the third time Thief of Sanity steals a card from your opponent is when this deck tends to win on sheer card advantage, and your hand will have enough counterspells to counter every relevant threat played by the opponent.
