Deck Description

This is the second version of my vampire deck. I have made it a little bit faster and focused on some key cards to make it run much more efficient and with more synergy.

My Original Version can be found here
http://www.mtgvault.com/xreverie8/decks/this-deck-sucks/

How to Play

The deck almost runs itself. You always have something to do with your mana. Just keep playing Vampires, letting them help one another with +1+1 counters and flying.
Bloodline Keepers keep making 2/2 vamps. then he transforms and gives all other vamps +2+2 and you have a group of 4/4 flyers. not to mention if there are multiple of him or Vampire Noctunus on the field who gives +2+1. All the While, you are casting Bloodghasts, Vampire Nighthawk and Gatekeeper of Malakir. Before you know it you have 7 or so 6/6 flyers. Childs and Nighthawks with lifelink.

Use removal on any potential threats and Gain lots of life. ALWAYS cast Gatekeeper with his kicker to make opponent sacrifice.

Sign in Blood and Read the Bones let you get deeper into your deck.

The main new addition to the deck is Lashwrithe. It alone gives any vampire, at least, +4/+4 . Easily swinging up to 5,6,7 and more at a time. Add these counters onto the ones generated by Nocturnus and the bloodline keeper's abilities, the Vampires in this deck get massive.

Add Lashwrithe to Nighthawk to gain stupid amounts of life every turn.

Equipping Lashwrithe to a vampire triggers the morbid effect of tragic slip because the germ token dies. Lashwrithe triggers Shadow alley Denizen as well, because the germ is black.

I like your deck. Its pretty simple I don't like the high curve on mana though. To many 4 drops. I would play some one mana vamps instead of tragic slip. Also way to many 2 drops. I would play bloodghast cause he comes back. I also tested feast of blood to be a hit or miss and when it missed it cost me the game.

The mana curve does level out a little better than shown when you consider Gatekeeper of malakir. I consider him a 3 drop because I NEVER play him as a 2 drop.

I thought about switching out child of night for bloodghast. But child has lifelink. Between her and nighthawk, I always have lifelink present on the field and usually equip lashwrithe to one of them.

The deck also revolves around my 4 drops. Bloodline, nocturnus and Lashwrithe. its true i don't have any first turn creatures, but the deck starts running on turn 2 and hits really hard by turn 5 and 6. And my removal (including gatekeeper) help slow down any decks that are faster than this one.

The main question i guess is... Is bloodghast as good in this layout as child? I usually have child as an 8/7 or 10/9 each game with lifelink.

I like bloodghast cause if someone kills your guys you can always rely on a good creature to come back. I wish I could play my vamps and show you what I mean.

I know how well Bloodghast plays, I have played him before. I just don't know if he is necessarily better than child of night when she is getting pumped to huge numbers and gaining tons of life for me. Bloodghast could be equipped and pumped to a huge size as well, and If killed possibly come back the very next turn.

But its the life gain I'm thinking about. I never thought I would compare Child of Night to Bloodghast.

In an aggro deck you have all the life gain you need with vampire nighthawk. I feel that bllodghast is more consistent and more of a threat compared to child of the night. Plus the fact you are not running any 1 drops, child becomes the first threat, what happens to the first threat of any game? They die. Hence the bloodghast holds his own, cause they wont waste spells on him cause he will come back and even if they do they just wasted a spell on it. also if your counting on your vamps becoming 5/5 or better you more then likely have already won and life gain is pointless.

Well here I'm.

I think vampire nocturnus is good choise if u play child of nights in full black deck. nice 4/2 lifelink flyers.
I would drop doomblade and increase more tragic slip and feast of blood. Both cheaper and better versitaile remove. And in ur deck the conditions are easy to obtain.

Maybe altars reap instead of sign in blood. U can sac a token.
Ring of Xatrihd is also nice in vampire decks.

Maybe more cheaper vampire's. My vampire deck first also had child of nights as cheapest one and u can realy start playing on turn 2 or if u use dark rituals or if u had instants or socercy's to start on turn 1.

and if u own anowon put him in there :p!!!! In pure vampire deck its almost must like vampire nighthawk (the beste 3 mana creature from MTG!)

Maybe u can put in 3 of each 4 drop and put in some more 1 drops. And if enemy does not have creature i cast gatekeeper of malakir without kicker . Its extra damage/defense and vampire on board for bloodline keeper (hes so good!)

I do own all the cards above, but I took out anowon because he was to slow to ever get any use. By the time I had 5 mana and him in my hand I always have better options like removal and any of the 4 drops.

I thought about trying to put in some 1 drops but I'm not sure which one would be good in combination with the pumps. The deck's main mechanic is to come alive on turn 4, 5 and 6. with Bloodline and nocturnus. The big finisher is Lashwrithe. Turn 4, drop lashwrithe, pay 4 life and equip nighthawk or child to get major damage and earn back the life just spent to equip it. Then turn 5 and 6 are spent doing major damage and playing bloodlines and nocturnus. That's why Anowon is too slow unfortunately. Anowon is one of my favorites.

What 1 drops would you suggest? I have some shadow ally denizens that may work.

I have same problem, i dont know what 1 mana drop vamps to put in.

I need to test that. If u have bloodline keeper maybe alley denizen is better cause u can trigger his effect every turn by creating a token. If u dont have a bloodkeeper, gull drazz is better (if oppend has less than 10 life).

Pulse tracker is also option, but need to think about that. Maybe hes better in multiplayer(impact)

Okay, so I'm trying out -2 Child of night and +2 Shadow Alley Denizen. It will allow whichever creature is equipped with lashwrithe to do a lot of damage in turn 5 or 6 maybe even ending the game. I have some play testing to try this evening but I think it will do well.

I may try 4 Denizens in place of Childs all together.

hard to drop a 4 mana vamp :p
still small chance to get a 1 drop in ur opening hand. And denezin is the best one one drop vamp i think. He is also good since u will be casting creatures after him. On turn 2 u can already attack with him feared if u can cast a new creature, that is wat agro is all about.

can u commont on another deck from me :p I just uploaded a new deck :p or on one of my old decks.

jep undying evil is always nice, always keep 1 mana slot open if u have one in ur hand and an important vampire. U save ur creature and he comse back stronger!

I trew away gull draz vampire for denizen. I'm convinced he will be better. The bought have nice purpose in end games to. But denizen i feel is stronger in early games.

yeah, I still can't get rid of my 4 drops lol.
I want the deck to start strong but I don't want to mess with the midrange power it has going.

I absolutely will check your stuff when I get a chance.

our decks should play once against eachother :p
is that possible, maybe magic online? alsong as i dont have to pay for my virtual cards...

If u realy want to keep ur 4 drops u could also use dark rituals. But u can use those in any black deck ... (if u get the point)
But than u also must have them in ur opening hand and ur first creature almost always get removed espcialy a good ones.
Ur 1 drops can also serve as cannon flesh before u get the good ones out and ur oppenent has less cards already in his hand (less chance of removal) If can attack every turn with a vampire with fear... he maybe has to target ur 1 drop!

And i found the perfect card for gull drazz vampire! Sorin Markov with 2nd abilty!! All ur 1 drops become instant 3/2 intimidates vampires.

You asked for my opinion, and here it is: The mana-curve is not real good and goes just the wrong way. I would assume that most (fast) decks will overwhelm you before you get into play.

The changes I would do:
- 2-3 Lashwrithe ...4 times seems a little bit too much as finisher. This deck also looks like it wants to win by overrun, and not with a single, strong, finisher.
- 2 Bloodline Keeper ...4 times is a little bit too much, also he has the same cc as Vampire Nocturnus, which should always be favoured
-4 Child of Night ...there are better vampires. See suggestions
-1 Vampire Nocturnus ...also a finisher, so 1 on the battlefield should be enough.
-2 Feast of Blood ...good spell, but in the matched I played with my vampires, i often enough couldn't cast it because my opponent shot my vamps away. For alternatives see under suggestions.
-2 Read the Bones ...I would use Sign in Blood over Read the Bones, because it's cheaper to cast, and can be used as finisher. I doesn't dig that deep, the Scry effect is missing, but in a monoB deck it shouldn't be a problem to get Nocturnus to activate.
-5 Swamp ... -1 swamps (22 mana should be enough for aggro) and change 4 swamps to a searchland e.g. Evolving Wilds (Verdant Catacombs if you want to invest ~200 bucks)
- 14-15 cards

+1 Sign in Blood
+2 Tragic Slip ...one of the best removalsspells there is. Most decks consist of ~1/3 instants/sorcerys and most of those are removal spells. So there's always something dying, which you can only profit from with this spell.
+ 2-3 Shadow Alley Denizen ...good onedrop, that allows your vampires to slip through your opponents defences (If you don't play against another black or artifact deck)
+ 5-6 cards

Suggestions:
Blade of the Bloodchief ({1}; {1} to equip; Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on equipped creature. If equipped creature is a Vampire, put two +1/+1 counters on it instead), Æther Vial ({1}; At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put a charge counter on Æther Vial; {T}: You may put a creature card with converted mana cost equal to the number of charge counters on Æther Vial from your hand onto the battlefield), Mimic Vat ({2}; Imprint -- Whenever a nontoken creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may exile that card. If you do, return each other card exiled with Mimic Vat to its owner's graveyard. {3}, {T}: Put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of the exiled card. It gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step.), Bloodghast ({B}{B}; 2/1; Bloodghast can't block; Bloodghast has haste as long as an opponent has 10 or less life; Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may return Bloodghast from your graveyard to the battlefield), Vampire Hexmage ({B}{B}; 2/1; First strike; Sacrifice Vampire Hexmage: Remove all counters from target permanent)

Muktol

Awesome Advice. I will take a lot of it into consideration. I deck currently runs mid-ranged and usually wins via an overrun type situation, just as you mentioned. I have wanted to switch out Child of Night for bloodghasts for some time now.

thanks a million for your advice!

I agree with Muktol on many tings. Thx for some new vamp insights.

But Vampire Nocturnus is not preferable over bloodline keeper assuming u play full vamp deck.

Bloodline keeper is muuuuuuch stronger! (he is more new in MTG)
His Cost is same but more easy to pay if u run a multicolor deck
Ur vampires get +2/+2 witch is so much stronger if u dont have first strike! (than it gets neglected abit)
U can spam strong to , damm strong Vampire flying tokens!
And ur oppenent does not see ur top card so he gets less prepared for ur next moves.

Nocturnus has the ability to turn on as soon as he is played, without needing 5 vampires in play to flip like Bloodline keeper. I just played a match where it was turn 1: swamp, dark ritual, nighthawk. Turn 2: another swamp, dark ritual, nocturnus. needless to say, that game was over quickly.

But bloodline keeper is still very strong and I still run 3. He can also activate Shadow Alley Denizen when he makes his tokens. allowing for one of my fatties to get through and deal damage. He is one of my favorite cards.

This deck can often win with the vampires just doing their own thing, but Lashwrithe is SUCH A BOMB! It can hit so hard if an opponent doesn't have an immediate answer, (which they usually don't). Because it can be casted AND equipped on turn 4. paying life to equip. (and because the germ is black, it triggers Shadow Alley Denizen and allows whichever creature you equip to gain intimidate). If you have one extra mana, you can trigger morbid on tragic slip from the germ token dying.

This deck runs amazing and consistent. After tons and tons of play testing, I have found a pretty sweet configuration. it wins 9 times out of 10 in my play group. (Except against splinter twin, I'm still working on that)

Thanks A Lot Darko789 and Muktol. your suggestions have really helped me shape this deck.

nice comment. U got some strong points to! about the insta effect and the 5 vampire requirement.
That why i i hammer so mush on 1 draws and low mana cost. To have 5 vamps fast.

Nice insight on lashwrite being black and triggering with ur alley citzen. (sad its does not fit 100 % in my deck since the red splash)

Sorry havnt read through comments to see if somebody's said it already but in my vamp deck I run captivating vampires which with bloodline keeper work magically. Opponent drops an ulamog? No problem! It's yours now! Also fits theme of low mana curve and it gives all the other ones +1/+1
