I've had a few test games so far that had issues with the mana base and kept me from casting creatures when my combo pieces weren't ready, but mostly it's been good. I'm considering playing a 1-of Cinder Glade for when I draw into a Heath but need red, and I might drop some nonbasics in general for more basics, I haven't tried that out yet. The lack of a substantial amount of basics slows up the deck so it's crucial to time your pain lands and your fetch triggers.

What exactly is the combo
Ensoul does sound solid, I agree
This is a cheap deck, believe me. Compare this mere $90+ to a deck from Legacy like Death and Taxes, a steep price of roughly $1,650+. Even in standard, decks that compete in the Pro Tour can range from $150-$200, double or x1.5 the price of this.
I've wanted to use this combo in Standard for a while, good job! Although I have a deck for Modern that uses this combo as well, but instead with Retraction Helix/Banishing Knack + Ornithopter/Memnite + Intruder Alarm/Mirran Spy.And I notice that the combo has a lack of consistency (I.e. you only have one card for each combo piece). I would try testing some simple U/B dual lands and some Disciple of Deceits just for fun to see if they help your combo get into your hand more quickly. Just a thought.
Okay, so as a general update, I did some research and did get a chance to play test this deck, and here's what I've found:1. Against a deck that runs few counter spells (I.e. decks that don't run blue very heavily or at all), this deck will 7/10 blow them out of the water on turn 4.2. This deck's worst matchup is against Burn and America/Jeskai Control. While this deck is very susceptible to Abrupt Decay, the Autumn's Veils and the Hurkl's Recalls easily save the day. However, Burn is incredibly fast and will very likely outrun the deck, you need a solid response to combat it and I have yet to adjust the deck/sideboard to fit that need.3. Your combo is best played all at once. All that's needed is a single creature on board for one turn, and the rest can be played in the following turn. Mana ramp isn't a problem really, and I find that I usually have enough mana for at least one response to follow up.
Indeed! If only I had the spare money to play Ugins haha
Nice deck! Too bad Banishing Light gets ruined by Ugin's wipe.
Oh shit. Welp, now I understand why Ugin's Nexus' first ability is relevant.... it looks incredibly cheap though
Great deck! Although I am curious about Squee, is he just to discard solely?
Thanks for the advice!I whittled down the number of mirran spies, knacks and a few others by one to make room for G-Probes and Birds. As for mox opal... I think I'll pass on that $60+ each, I'm already having to buy a set of Rainforests haha
Definitely throw in a pestermite or two somewhere (I'd your sideboard could handle it, it's just a fun, winning combo) and I'd suggest you replace Negate with Spell Pierce to better manage your mana. Unless that (2) isn't enough, of course.
I think that maybe Browbeat or Titan's Strength could help a little with gas; browbeat is either going to dome them for 5 or you divinations, and titans strength may be 1 power less than fists of the anvil, but it has scry 1, and boosts toughness (if that's somehow relevant). Also, I'd attempt to swap out those guildgates, but lands can get REALLY pricy as it is.
OOOH that would make sense. Anything in M15 worthy of this deck? Hammerhand and Stoke the Flames look pretty good in this scenario.
I'd suggest Varolz, The Scar Striped, but I don't know how well you could play him with that green mana symbol in his cost.
Just make sure you've got that nihil ready afterwards, aggro grave decks like Living End pick right back up the next turn.
OOOH okay, that would explain a lot.
I honestly think this could be competitive in legacy, I'd try to make it legal at least in that format. I'd suggest some good disruption though, like thoughtseize or inquisition of kozilek, maybe even hymn to tourach, but if it's more of a casual deck then it's golden in its current state.
