Deck discussion for Infinite Mill combo/ Cheap

Have you considered jeskai sage instead of seeker of the way? the card draw might be worth more than conditional lifelink

The 1/1 merfolk that draws cards via tapping could work too.

You might want to add <a href="/card/daring-thief/" target="new">Daring Thief</a> to trade your <a href="/card/ornithopter/m15/"target="new">Ornithopter</a> or other creatures and enchantments for good stuff.

Hey if you want to know how to link to <a href="/kered/decks/how-to-link-to-a-deckcard/"target="new">decks/cards</a> check this out!

I love this deck, all the recommendations I could think of are not standard unfortunately. So I will just give you a nice +1 from me.

I made a similar one (non-standard), but if I remove a few lands could make modern.

For those interested in a different variation:

You attach Retraction Helix to Midnight Guard. then u tap Midnight Guard and return Ornithopter to your hand. You can then put Ornithopter back on the battlefield which will untapped Midnight Guard. And u can do this infinite times. And with Alter of the Brood every time Ornithopter comes out opponent loses 1 life.

you might consider darksteel citadel if you're running ensoul artifact. also astral cornucopia can be an ornithopter replacement since you can cast it for 0.

I've wanted to use this combo in Standard for a while, good job! Although I have a deck for Modern that uses this combo as well, but instead with Retraction Helix/Banishing Knack + Ornithopter/Memnite + Intruder Alarm/Mirran Spy.
And I notice that the combo has a lack of consistency (I.e. you only have one card for each combo piece). I would try testing some simple U/B dual lands and some Disciple of Deceits just for fun to see if they help your combo get into your hand more quickly. Just a thought.

Hopefully you can shave off the extra 2 cards to go down to 60, you want as much consistency as you can get with a combo deck

Bro, I gave you your plus one. Try runing Taigams. People say its bad but it worked well last night. Effectively thins 6 of your cards for combo search. (Itself, + 5 cards if none are combo pieces.)

(Edit): Read Disciple incorrectly. Good addition indeed.

but can this deck work WITHOUT fetches and digs? I have my doubts.

0

it can but the replacement cards wouldn't be standard older dual lands and brainstorm/ponder it can even run the tricolor land

Someone just needs to Get their head out of the butt. Any deck under 150$ is, in mine and many people i knows, opinion a 'cheap' deck. when normal to expensive decks run quads of 20$ cards thats 80$ just in 4 slots.... his deck is 40$ away from 4 Thoughtseize's. If this isnt a cheap deck idk what is.... +1 from me for creativeness!

1
Posted 23 February 2015 at 05:07

I suppose "Cheap" is a relative term.

1
Posted 23 February 2015 at 05:49

This is a cheap deck, believe me. Compare this mere $90+ to a deck from Legacy like Death and Taxes, a steep price of roughly $1,650+. Even in standard, decks that compete in the Pro Tour can range from $150-$200, double or x1.5 the price of this.

0
Posted 23 February 2015 at 17:21

Most good competitive decks in standard run for 200+. This isn't meant for tournament play because I see no real way to win much without your combo (and once someone get's comboed they sideboard to remove the combo the following game.) If you drop the fetch lands this deck drops to like 50 bucks...If you don't have 50 bucks then don't expect to build a decent deck.

0
Posted 23 February 2015 at 23:34

^There are some really good budget decks, especially with SOULFLAYER out you can just go mono black for 20 bucks but if you play against removal you're gonna want control. Just my opinion but I think control gives you more win options.

0
Posted 23 February 2015 at 23:35

And Mind Crank is great to go in this deck, trust me I've toyed with the Mind Crank+Blood Chief Ascension combo and it's fun, but this is STANDARD infinite mill. If I had the cash flow I'd drop the Disciples and run Ashiok's instead-better win con.

You should add four darksteel cindels and change out the dissolves for stuburn denial

0

Use ensoul on cindels so that stuburn will always counter no mater what if you don't have a big enough creature dissolves and/or dissipate

Springleaf drum? what purpose does that serve? you can't get infinite mana with it because it has to tap as well as the creature. can it really speed up the deck at all?

Springleaf drum helps safely trigger disciple of deceit.

Have you considered play testing this mill-strocity (I'm liking the deck, btw!) with Sorin, Solemn Visitor in place of Jace, the Living Guildpact? Sorin would beef creatures a bit for both your and your opponents turns until you're next on the play; possibly steering your opponent away from attacking you. Jace does give you a way to feed delve and gain information each turn; setting up your next draw. Alone, with their +1 abilities, I like Sorin in place of Jace. I'm biased though as I haven't actually played Jace yet... :-P

Just looking for your input in this regard FadedHerbivore!

Jace is free dig every turn, the only reason I run him. I could look into dropping something for Sorin though. lemme look into it!

instead of stubborn denial i would put a play set of mind sculpt so you can make sure you have more cards in your deck if you do it that way it'll be evil

Here's my feeling if you true want to go infinite mill spring leaf drum disciple plus freed from the reel it's truly infinite mill it's also unlimited tap and Untap helps for other combos to latch on with

0

I might be a bit late as someone else may have said this, but id suggest running 4 of each fetch land you can...(Flood Strand, Polluted delta, and Windswept Heath). that way , if you play those three rather than plains or islands respectfully, you're thinning your deck out slightly per fetch played increasing your chances to pull the cards you need... it's a small buff to the deck, but it might help the consistency!

0
Posted 07 March 2015 at 16:00

Well, I like this deck alot! Personal suggestion, run 4 Darksteel Citadel, 4 Ensoul Artifact. Indestructible 5/5s, plus they activate the Altars.

I know he's not very cheap, but with you plunking down an Ornithopter many times a turn another option would be Purphoros, God of the Forge? Mill 1 + 2 damage each turn. It's another combo option.

0

Built a variation on your deck with Impact Tremors, Purphoros, and more counterspells. Essentially, the deck ONLY works if the combo comes up early as there are few critters to help.

with the jest card id combo it with drown in sorrow or bile blight to have decent removal against token shitters and maybe adding in a lil bit of pump to use stubborn denial more effectively maybe ordeal of thasa? pump creature when it gets big enough draw 2 +1

The extra swamp is most likely brought in along with Ashiok to help cast Ashiok and the Disciple of Deceit. This would be my assumption. :-) Who wants to see squirrels? http://www.mtgvault.com/dustyb/decks/squirrel-madness/

this seems legit, atho wouldn't it be more consistent to remove white? now with dtk, you can replace midnight guard with zephyr scribe, and then instead of ornithopter you could bounce something like briber's purse, which still mills your opponent with altar of brood.

1
Posted 19 May 2015 at 13:17

that would work its another way of doing it and it does eliminate white but id rather get rid of black to be honest and use the white for some life gain along the way

0

Don't know if anyone suggested this, but as an alternative win con you could play some number of Anafenza, Kin Tree Spirit for infinite +1/+1 counters.
