Deck Description

Following a new game style idea, you are looking at two halfdecks designed to be used by new arena players.

A halfdeck is a 30 card deck with a focused theme that is meant to be shuffled together with any other halfdeck you can find out there, made by other fans of halfdecks.

For example, if you have a collection of 10 halfdecks, they can be combined with each other into 49 different decks, which means that if you have a lot of strong halfdecks, no one will ever know just what you will be playing next time you meet them.

These two halfdecks, one in the mainboard, the other in the sideboard are not necessarily meant to be put together but also can be built to join together with ANY other halfdeck.

Anyone interested in halfdecks in general can search for
The decktag: halfdeck
Which is used by everyone in the halfdeck community.

Feel free to build new halfdecks and join the group, but remember two things.
1: write about what halfdecks are.
2: mark your decks with the decktag: halfdeck.

MAINBOARD DECK: "Poisonous"
This halfdeck is built around Hooded Blightfang and deathtouch.
Your main goal is to get lots of deathtouch creatures out and start swinging. You opponent will have to either block and loose their own creatures or take the hits. A slow but steady win plan with resurrection effects to restock late game. This half will want support from other decks with late game buff spells or bigger threats to support all the early game small nasty creatures.

SIDEBOARD DECK: "Venomous"
This halfdeck is built around Fynn, the Fangbearer and deathtouch.
The goal is to get out Fynn, the Fangbearer and then get in with as many deathtouch creatures as you can. To get through the deck has trample effects and Ram Through which when combined with deathtouch is just pure removal in green. This half functions best with ways to get the damage through and gives late game decks some nice early turn blockers.

BOTH HALVES TOGETHER: "Infectious"
Together these decks allow you to fully chase the Fynn, the Fangbearer strategy of just getting in with just 5 hits from deathtouch creatures to kill the opponent with poison damage. The deck is full of low mana creatures to flood the board and lots of removal to get rid of anything in the way. The bonus of Hooded Blightfang gives the deck an alternative winning plan of just dealing 20 damage the old fashioned way.

Deck discussion for Arena halfdecks: Deathtouch1+2

I like the "aggressive drawing" from your other page most with the "poisonous" here.
Combined they bring trampling deathtouchers to the scene and call of the death dweller makes it repeatable.
Any remaining blockers will probably be pinged to death.

Nice to see this getting traction

Yeah, it deserves a second chance :)
Maybe arena is the best platform for it.
In real life, shuffling halves together is pretty easy, but splitting them back into their original setups was a little difficult.

I mean how were you planning to do that in Arena? Is there a way to combine decks or will it have to be done manually?
TBF table top simulator is a good way to do it as you can easily save individual piles of cards and them combined them as and when you want.

I have no idea, I don't use arena

Yeah, I don't have arena either.

Mtgvault has a couple of features. One is mass import where you can dump a copy/pasted decklist and then it will become a deck automatically and can be exported. I don't know the exact details, but some other sites might be able to convert it to arena, so it might involve some steps.

So you might create a larger textfile listing all the halflists to transfer into the mass import feature of mtgvault, and it should be easy to copy two chunks of text to do that.

Halfdecks was meant to be a beginners tool.
It's a lot easier to "build a deck" in modules, than having to select all the cards by yourself.

They can print out these decklists we make for them and look at them while building the deck on arena.
The cards I've selected have been announced to be a core arena set always available to new players once they complete the tutorials.

Any old die hard magicplayer that wants to play arena too, but for free, will also have great use of my halves.

The most difficult part of construction is to make sure that a deckhalf is strong enough to stand alone.
It might have a theme, but the deck needs strength.
I'm not that fond of my 5th version which was based on knights as it was sort of the leftovers remaining.

If a half is put together with another half and there is just no synergy, then the deck will perform at a low level.

So far I'm just smashing stuff together at a fast pace, but at some time I will start to fine tune the halves
(When I got 5 in each color) and make sure that every deck has synergy with all of the other decks.

It's a longterm project, but I think it will be fun.

When wotc starts expanding the free core set I'll be upgrading everything.
Who knows, one day I'll see a top player play a combined halfdeck that he saw a newbie play, and upgraded it a little.

It should be recognizable :)

I think it’s Great for Beginners for learning what different decks can do, maybe except combo decks

I love to teach about combo. Combo is perhaps my weakest point compared to my playstyle, so it's great to see a new players glee at beating the creep out of me :)
