I've played around a lot with Mono Black Vamps and right now this setup is treating me well. It's a creature based deck with means scarce are the blank draws. Highborn and Artist are the primary defense against sweepers. Immortal Servitude is that sneaky little Up Yours when they realize most of your Graveyard is 2 drops. 5 on Servitude and your army is back.
A good hand has around 2 lands and at least one Artist/Highborn. Those creatures are the real killers in this deck. Even though the pose the leastime combat threat, they're the reason the deck wins. Opponents either understand that and do their best to spot remove them first or they lose. So bet on losing those creatures, it's okay, we'll get them back. Mortuary mire helps, our card draw spells help to get more, and all of our killing Creatures really help to buy time along with the life gain. The deck does well with not being run over in the early game, and almost always locks opponents out when there's a field of little vampires for which the death of each will cost to the opponent anywhere from 3 to 5 life. The deck is incredibly resilient and thrives on slowly bleeding the enemy, all in the spirit of the deck. Chalice of Life/Death is the most satisfying sideboard card. Beat Aggro with life gain. Beat big Creatures with plenty of kill. Be Control with death penalties and resilience. It's fun, a whole lot of fun. It's not really quite tournament good, but for what it is and it's price, it's very enjoyable. I'd like to take the over all philosophy and turn it into an Orzhov Commander deck.Let me know what you think in the comments. I love input on my deck builds.
