Deck Description

Incoming pun: so after some time of shaking the bugs out of my lantern deck i found a great way to do so was to simply put the bugs back in /:D

in all seriousness i have been playing with ideas on a modern lantern deck for a good while now and i think i may finally have the design i've been looking for. in a world where a lot of lantern decks will now run you 600+ i think this is doing pretty well moneywise (granted i already have most of these cards).

if anybody has any suggestions feel free to let me have them.

Deck discussion for BUGgy Lantern

I'm spending a bit of time at dissecting many different decktypes at the moment to launch a series of radical hybrids.

What is it that lantern is good at...

Lantern prevents the opponent from drawing into key cards, which means they quickly run out of steam...

But lantern needs defences against other decktypes, and it does so by controlling the battlefield, with cards like Ensnaring Bridge and Pithing Needle

It also needs to draw cards fast, both to get lantern and bridge.

So, if you want to design a hybrid with lantern you need to either find a way to do the same thing in a new way, or you need to try out some stuff that supports the same goals but not in the same way as usual.

I'm going to toy with some pretty radical hybrids myself...

Enchantress lantern:
Enchantress controls the board, but has never really controlled what the opponent draws.
Therefore lantern of insight and "mill" will be a new asset to the deck.
Enchantress is slowly locking the battlefield down, but lantern may actually speed it up because the opponent will no longer be able to play stuff during the entire game.

I've also toyed a little with lantern merfolk.
The lantern and the mill allows merfolk to develop aggression at a much faster pace, while at the same time it prevents the opponent from developing their aggro. In return [[merrow rejereey]] untaps Codex Shredder whenever a merfolk hits the table, allowing you to mill more than lantern usually would do.

There are plenty of other decks to go hybrid with.
Affinity lantern
Hammertime lantern

All you have to do is ask yourself if any of the hybrids have similar game styles or can allow you to use new tricks.

Take affinity lantern for example, you can both slow the aggression of the opponent while speeding up the affinity gameplan by using lantern+codex. Affinity will offer aggression. You won't need protection for your longterm millplan if you can just kill them. If it happens that you need to throw down a bridge, then Cranial Plating and [[archbound ravager]] are notoriously renowned at bypassing the bridge, even when you have 0 cards in hand, due to Ornithopter or [[signal pests]].

So, why not starting to think about what you can merge with lantern ?
The opportunities are endless :)
