Summoning Trap can get him out on turn 2 if an opponent counters a creature spell. It's possible on turn 1 as well if he gets cocky and counters a 1 cmc creature lol
Wild Growth isn't Modern Legal though. Not sure if he wants to keep it Modern or not, but currently it is.
