Deck Description

A Dragon Storm deck that I've been playing in casual play for a while now. I use red draw cards to get to the cards I need quicker. I normally win by fetching all 4 Kokusho, the Evening Star. I only have 2 Hunted Dragons, so I fill the other 2 with Predator Dragon (for now).

*EDIT (17 March '10):
I took out 2 Hunted Dragons to put in 2 Predator Dragons

Very nice. This will give me some ideas for my own deck. Kokusho is the strongest dragon around, in my opinion.

Until your oponent... 1) Unmakes your card, 2) Oblivion Rings your card, 3) Path to Exiles your card, 4) Journey to Nowheres your card, or 5) Swords to Plowshares your Evening Stars...

Most me the removal you just mentioned can only be played after my turn ends, by then the evening stars have done what they where supposed to do. And I do have more dragons than most people play removal cards, most with haste.

whats up my man, i love me a dragonstorm deck. i have 3 of my own. personally i would re-make this deck a lil bit. you dont need 12 dragons because the maximum you need to win is 4. i would drop it down to 8 or 9. 4 hellkites, 4 kokushos, and maybe 1 hunted aught to do the trick. that is enough dragons to win and will free up some card spots for you. i would also consider making this a black and red or blue and red deck. with black you can add dark ritual and some fantastic search cards. With blue you can add some search and counter.

here are some cards to look at that could help you.

BLACK:
demonic tutor, dark ritual, diabolic tutor, vampiric tutor, duress

BLUE:
grozoth, intuition, pact of negation, brainstorm

COLORLESS:
mana vault, mana crypt, Boseiju, Who Shelters All

these changes will speed the deck up quite a bit and will provide some protection, both of which will lead to more wins.

check out my main dragonstorm deck, its the first deck i posted

Hahaha! It's been a long time since I've seen a "Kokusho Nuke" as my buddies and I call it. =]

This one might be even better than my friends...I might have to show this one to him. Well done Ded. =]

Lol, I mite just start refering to it as that too :p.
I got the cards for this from a guy who quit playing (I never did like him much). He made it when it was still standard, but he had it red blue (the 'net deck' version). I took out blue and added more dragons (including Kokusho) as I don't like 'net decks'.

:) Best part is when I play this deck is someone in my group will recognize some of the cards I use and try kill me before I pull off the "Kokusho Nuke", but almost never get it rite in time.
I even beat someone after he sided in 4x Mindbreak Trap (he didn't pull the trap in time) :p

nice deck. seems tight enough for early turn wins. im a little confused on kokusho.... isee you have crimson whisps but i didnt think that changed the mana requirements.... something like it being a red creature with black mana requirements. cause a suspended artifact is kinda risky.
maybe trade em up for kilnmouth or maybe tyrant....

Because with Dragonstorm, you could fairly easily pull out 4x Kokusho for an instant 40 life swing.

"Kokusho Bomb" or "Kokusho Nuke" is a very sexy little trick. It's one of the few possible first-turn wins that kills every opponent, regardless of how many people are playing.

0

Ja, storming into all 4 Kokusho = each opponent looses 20 life and I gain life equal to life lost this way (20 life X number of opponents). Even if someone survives the 'nuke', I'll be on such a high life and have at least 1 of the red dragons out to attack with (I never storm for less than 5 dragons).

wow.... guess i forgot to consider dragonstorm + kokusho. that is a deadly combo!

I really like this deck. It is very similar to the deck I want to create using dragons. Please take a look at my decks if you get a chance. I would love some feedback.

You have a BEAST amount of Dragons. Check out my Dragon deck. I'm using Dragonspeaker Shaman x3 to lower the costs of my dragons by 2 colorless mana. With two or three of these guys dragons will cost but one or two mountain mana!

The shaman is a cool card, but it doesn't help with Dragonstorm's cost :( If only Dragonstorm was Tribal Sorcery - Dragon

LOL. That'd be fun :D
The unfortunate thing about this deck is it's a "When it works" deck. When it works, it wins, the rest of the time it doesn't do too well :P

I know that feeling haha. Mine works pretty consistently although I had one game where I drew zero dragons but I still held my owbn pretty well with some of the green creatures. I still have NO idea how the shuffle was so bad but normally I have a 90% chance of getting a good game going.

Love it. I keep intending to make something similar (minus the Koshuko Nuko, too expensive for me to build), but then again I keep intending to make a /lot/ of decks.

What do you think about Dragon Mage? I've been holding onto a pair of them for my to-be Dragonstorm deck. My thinking is, there's enough mana ramp to hardcast any of the dragons if Dragonstorm doesn't appear. But to do so would expend a fair many cards. So, hardcast a Dragon Mage, and get a fresh hand next turn.

I've often been left with casting the dragons because Dragonstorm didn't come :( so your idea with the Dragon Mage mite work quite well :P

I've been doing a little bit of investigating for cards I would run in my Dragonstorm deck. First is Gamble. It's a red tutor for {R}, search your library for a card, put it into your hand, then discard a card at random. So long as you have enough mana to lose a mana source and still cast Dragonstorm, it shouldn't backfire... too often.

The other is Overmaster. Costs {R} and is a Sorcery. The next instant or sorcery spell you cast this turn cannot be countered. Draw a card.

Just a few ideas :)

I've liked this deck for a while now. Your" when it works" is so true. I have a dragonstorm deck that i made for more of abeatdown motif. It has verious ways of casting dragonstorm. And i built it so that "when it works" happens less often. check it out.

Maybe you can use Memnites to cast before Dragonstorm and send out a bunch of Kokushos at the same time.

There's a reason I didn't (and Ornithopter's another option for that idea). The turn I storm off, I need a lot of mana (9 mana to be exact) and the best way is all the mana boost spells (Seething Song, etc), so there's no room in hand for that idea.

Hi DW - do you still play this? You could *cough* In Response *cough* mana ramp/card draw yourself into a Manamorphose + Nix and hose Mindbreak Trap ]:-))

Could also be cool to see a SB to this gem.

I´ve built a Turn 1 Dragonstorm Legacy Legal. Check it and tell me if you like it =)
