Deck discussion for Light from Purphoros

Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Extraplanar Lens, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. With those 4 cards the amount of mana you can produce is beyone rediculous. Make your mountains tap for 4 mana each? Yes please!

Typically cards that are good in other formats, don't do as well in EDH. For example, Doomed Traveler. Traveler is one of the best cards from Innistrad. Every single human deck and every single white deck and every single spirit deck and any deck that could run any, ran 4. In EDH, it's W for a 1/1 that dies then gains flying. There are better cards. Goblins pride themselves on being small, numerous, and fast, and small and fast isn't as good a strategy in EDH since games take much longer than Modern or Legacy games. So 1 drop 1/1s that just get an effect when they die are really just wasted space. I'd suggest Voracious Dragon and/or Preyseizer Dragon. I have a list of cards that are nice to run in EDH so if you want ideas, take a look.

Furthermore, I'd suggest some boardwipes. Black White and Red have the best boardwipes and when Red boardwipes it WIPES the board. Creatures. Artifacts. Lands. Permanents. Everything must go. Apocalypse, Bonfire, Decree of Snnihilation, Obliterate, Blasphemous Act, there are a ton.

On a similar note, put in better burn spells. Why run Lightning Strike when you can run Lightning Bolt. If you do end up putting in a large chunk of Instants, consider Isochron Scepter.

I also suggest a lot of Artifact spot removal cards of which, Red has an unending number of. You can also run Permanent removal cards to cover enchantments as well.

Coat of Arms. It's a Goblin tribe, why on earth would you not run Coat of Arms?

If you want some nice cards, you can take a look at my Purphoros EDH. There are a lot of great cards in there so have at it.

Hope this helped!

hmm the first cards u suggested r amazing just dont have the room for them. if u know Purphoros's effect, then u know that i need a creature heavy commander. what u consider working in EDH and what i know will be better for the deck as a whole r completely different. typically 1 drops like i have here rnt very good on their own, but when all i need them to do is come into play when Purphoros is around and deal 2 to everyone, its enough speed to keep to a sort of burn deck. the major board wipes rnt really a concern. i do have act in the deck, and thought about the others. i came to the conclusion that they would hurt me more than they would help me. dont forget red has some of the weakest defenses when used wrong. a red deck tends to run out of steam fast and has a hard time keeping up on it's own let alone in EDH...(which u just helped me remember i forgot about reforge the soul..)

lighting strike and the others were just spot fillers to keep the overall cmc low and give me a touch of "spot" removal if u will being mono red, or even just a few extra points of damage if i need it. not to worried about what eveyone else is going to be doing in the game. the deck is designed to stand on its own and keep burning everyone slowly.

coat of arms isnt needed in this deck especially in my area that would only kill me faster than help.. alot of ppl in my area run tribal based decks even in EDH ( elves, spirits, zombies, treefolk and even i run a jund dragon tribal) soooo that is a bad thing for me to even think about putting in since it helps them too.

thx for the comment and u did give me some last min additions i need to find room for.

Hostility would be a great card. It gives you more creature drops, which with purphoros basically doubles the damage you are dealing, plus giveing you more creatures to swing with! It's a win-win card when paired with the Red God.

Also, Guttersnipe! And maybe Young pyromancer? I built my own version of a purphoros deck that I had stewing around here. I really want to get off that myr incubator one day with purphoros out, and just wipe the board with 16 to 30 damage to each opponent! http://www.mtgvault.com/daishi/decks/swarms-of-damage/

I feel like a late-game Goblin Offensive powered by Koth's -2 with the God out would be ... painful.

How about Goblin Rally? It puts 4 Goblins on the field not only for your Krenko, but Purphoros can deal 8 damage to everyone else?

If you just want to use mediocre goblins, feel free to ignore this comment.

You're missing some staples. They may not fit your 'theme' but are so universally good that you really shouldn't be without them in EDH:
Sol Ring
Skullclamp
Gamble
Chaos Warp
and as the first poster mentioned:
Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Extraplanar Lens, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.
Also Journeyer's Kite > Map

Utility Lands:
High Market
Madblind Mountain
Mikokoro
Miren

Now, things that will help enable your combo (you don't need to use just goblins, you can mix it up a bit):
Kher Keep
Nuisance Engine
Mimic Vat
Splinter Twin
Spawning Breath
Goblin Warrens
Ib
Firecat Blitz
Chancellor of the Forge
Furystroke Giant
Goblin Bombardment

Things you don't need (these are not good in EDH):
Memnite
Browbeat
Dragon's Claw
Staff of Flame Magus
Awaken the Ancient (doesn't trigger your general)
Wild Guess
Goblin Chariot
Raging Goblin
mountaineer
goblin cohort
Adder Staff (you'll lose the clash most of the time)

personally for me whenever i run a mainly damage based deck like this one for edh it never hurts to throw in some damage multiplication like curse of bloodletting or furnace of rath. if you through in both of these (there are more "double damage" out there those are just two off the top of my head) the damage stacks so a goblin rally just dealt a whopping 32 damage to everyone more than likely winning the game for you. also since this is a goblin deck id also recommend warstorm surge it adds additional damage to the player/players your facing

i was going to use the furnace but in my area that would only hurt me more than help. remember it affects everyone including urself. its the bad part to using furnace and y i dont really use it that much any more.

Yes but you could also use curse of bloodletting which effects only your opponent.I think furnace is good but its a high risk high reward scenario

Really good setup and choice of commander, I would suggest somehow adding tar pitcher, goblin firestarter, goblin assault, maybe run goblin lackey or warren instigator.
