Leaves and branches rattled against him in discord as Janos, High Ranger of the Keldon Royal Army, fled through the jungle. Breath tore from his throat in ragged gasps while his arms and legs pistoned in desperation. Janos vaulted over a moss-slicked log and struggled to maintain his balance as the unfamiliar terrain threatened to pull his feet from under him. Blood flowed freely from a massive gash on his side; three long jagged wounds glowed slightly with a soft blue light; the pitiful healing spell he cast barely managed to keep him from passing out. Janos' stumbled and leaned heavily on one of the massive tree trunks. His breath was labored and his face drawn tight in pain. Steadying himself, he drew upon his mana and reached out his magical senses. Invisible tendrils of pure magic extended from Janos, seeking out the enchanted charms his soldiers wore. Nothing."Damnit" Janos swore.The weary Ranger checked his compass and reapplied his mystic healing salve. Even with ancient magic buffing his considerable endurance, Janos could feel his strength ebbing. He had lost too much blood already. He had maybe 3 hours left, tops. If Janos did not find the rest of the army, or at least one of the advanced patrols in time, his chances for survival dipped into precipitous territory. Not that his survival was paramount, however. He only needed to survive long enough to warn the main contingent. Warn them to retreat from Yavimaya post-haste.
