Deck Description

What’s going on guys DNinja89 here and I’m back with discussion this time. I want to cover a few of things, firstly is one set per block (not sure what to call it) good, secondly the enter the dungeon mechanic, and lastly repeated sets in the same plane.

So first of all I would like to say thank you to everyone who is reading this and secondly forgive me for the bad grammar. But if you want a audio version of this rant then head over to my YouTube channel. D-Ninja89 or search gem or jank, Friday night brawl, or magic the Vlog. It will be there as soon as I get time. I will break it down into separate articles so it’s easier to read.

Is one set per block good?

In short my opinion is that the one set per block is not good. My reasoning for that is the D&D set. They introduced us to a few good mechanic but they need desperately to fleshed out. I’ll cover more about dungeons below but the pack tactics is great. Aggro strategies can play expensive threats without worry now. Dice rolling I’m on the fence about, I don’t know if it was accidental but the dice rolling has a infinite combo and I’m not a fan of infinite combos.

That has a lot to do with my yugioh background. Just look up infinite hand loop you’ll see my pain. as a whole the set is showing the cracks of just one set per block. The mechanics in the D&D set are fun but they all feel like they are missing key support cards. Another set or two to further build on the mechanics would help it not feel incomplete.

The enter the dungeon mechanic.

The enter the dungeon mechanic when it was first released sounded awesome. However in practice it’s clunky and leads no where. To add to my point above the enter the dungeon mechanic has no pay off. It just lack luster at best and decks built on that mechanic have almost no relevance. The mechanic itself feels rushed and incomplete.

Repeat visits to the same plane.

So this one is just my personal opinion, but I think repeatedly going back to the same planes is boring. I know they want to build a story but what about planes we haven’t been to since magic began? We have went to ravnica 4 times. We have ravnica, return to ravnica, ravnica allegiance, and war of the spark. Three of those slots could have been filled with other sets we have only visited once.

In conclusion.

We need more sets per block, to me and probably many other players. We want more time in the planes. Not just stopping by for a cup of coffee. This would also help with the mechanic problem as well. More time in a set the more fleshed out a mechanic can be. Lastly we need to visit more planes, otherwise the game gets stale when it’s our 15th time visiting the exact same plane in a 5 year span.

But I hope you enjoyed my rant and I would love to hear your thoughts below. This is D-Ninja and I’m signing out goodbye y’all.

Deck discussion for Magic the blog: a small rant.

When shards of alara was released and the full 3 sets had been released I was feeling pretty hungry for something along the exact same lines, but with the unseen shards (jeskai, mardu and the others)

With a lot of the storyline involving time travel I've been dreaming of an alternate version of shards of alara. Perhaps something went wrong during nicol bolas spell so he died in that alternate universe as the shards settled into a figuration he had not foreseen.

I've longed for this version for so long that I've made a longterm goal of designing the damn set myself and sending it if it won't happen by itself :)

I feel that would be a good set to go back to or shadowmoor. Shadowmoor mainly because we need more scarecrow support :b
