Deck Description

I will start out by saying that Nicol Bolas is my favorite planeswalker. I love how complex and large all his plans become in every story line he is involved in. I tried to embody this aspect of Bolas in this deck by having the deck reflect the themes from the Amonkhet and the War of the Spark story lines. I also included some other cards from planes he has also influenced or any planes his minions have a strong history in.

The biggest decision for the deck was the commander. None of the other 5 color commander candidates really fit the theme. With the release of the Golos, I finally found a commander that fit the theme (he looks close enough to an eternal and he is a soldier), and he is a commander that real helps some of the mana issues I sometimes have with this deck.

I truthfully have been tweaking this deck since Amonkhet (it originally focused on the Embalm and Eternalize mechanics) , but the introduction of the Amass ability along with the God-Eternals really helped the deck's theme and playstyle grow into what I had originally imagined.

I would also like to point out, this deck had multiplayer commander in mind. I wanted it to be adaptable for any situation it may face within the chaos of a 3+ player commander game. I have yet to test it in 1-on-1 commander games.

Suggestions are more than welcome!

How to Play

Like I have mentioned in the description above, this deck was designed with multiplayer conditions in mind. This deck likes to take advantage of the politics of commander. This deck keeps itself as a minor threat early game while silently setting up combos for mid to late game. When someone starts to notice what you are setting up, distract them with either a better target (like another opponent), or help them out (by destroying an opponent's pillow fort). You use the cheap monsters and the amassed armies to keep yourself alive (and to build pity points with the other players) while filling up your and your opponent's graveyards up with plenty of targets for cards like God-Pharaohs Gift, The Scarab God, Havengul Liche, Mimic Vat, and Hour of Eternity. The odds of this deck succeeding increases if your graveyard or an opponent's graveyard is able to stay un-exiled.

But, this deck does have the potential to hit strongly mid-game without relying on politics. After playing against friends, I have learned that if you can get Golos out with either Conjurer's Closet of Soulherder early in the game, you are set to control the field while dishing out plenty of damage. And for some reason, people are less inclined to destroy this combo of getting a land every turn because it is not an immediate threat and is not causing immediate damage.... much like Bolas take advantage of their mistakes.
