Deck Description

This deck is part of a new format my friends and I are wanting to try out. It focuses purely on devotion and nothing else. We even drafted up the guidelines for building our devotion decks. If you have any suggestions concerning these rules, please comment them below. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

1. All nonland cards in your deck must contribute to your devotion. This rule does not apply to tokens.

2. Your deck may only be one color. You may not have any other colored mana symbol on any card, to include card effects, unless it is hybrid mana. Hybrid mana must include your chosen color.

3. Each deck must include the god card of your chosen color, at least one other nonland permanent that has an effect based on devotion, and [Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx].

4. Instant & Sorcery spells are not allowed unless they or another permanent on the field has an effect that allows them to stay on the field as a permanent (i.e. Cipher, Elite Arcanist, etc.). Instant & Sorcery spells cannot be played unless they will remain on the field as a permanent on the turn they are played.

5. Colorless cards are not allowed.

6. You may only have up to four of a single non-basic land in your deck, and it may not violate any of the other rules listed. Dual land or land that can produce more than one color of mana with an effect is not allowed. This rule does not apply to [Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx].

7. Only cards that fall under the archetype Modern are authorized. This includes Timeshifted cards.

8. Players may not include creatures with intimidate or fear, or creatures that grant either ability to other creatures. Creatures that gain intimidate or fear through an activated or triggered ability are allowed. Non-creature permanents that grant these abilities are allowed. Creatures with Shadow or unblockable are still allowed.

How to Play

This deck plays out just like a normal deck, only without instants or sorceries. The big thing to do here is get as much devotion out as possible with a Nykthos on the field so that you can cast more for more devotion, and then finish up with a [Gray Merchant of Asphodel]. Believe me when i say that you will be hard pressed to lose if you can toss out one or more of those bad boys.

Deck discussion for Devotion to Death

I really want to +100 this. Rules are amazing. I'm going to borrow this format from you lol.

Nicely done on the deck too!

By all means. It's incredibly fun to play because it makes you think outside the box and makes some cards that normally wouldn't be considered for a deck useful. I will say though that green is a monster with these rules. Primalcrux and Khalni Hydra grant so much devotion on their own and in the case of Primalcrux it can get stupid huge if you don't take care of it.

Yeah, I can see green being ridiculous. I'll probably try to do something with that. What do you think of blue for devotion? I don't think I've ever looked at that.
