Deck discussion for [Budget] Life Rippers

For the how to play, Asphodel on turn 5 only deals 5 damage/give you 5 life, I'd hope for better, even in casual play. Your deck just doesn't seem like it was designed to be a devotion deck. Take out Asphodel, Underworld, and Overlord for something else or make the deck more devoted to black.

Thank you for your comments! In fact, I did make a different mono-black deck for that purpose. Please have a look at that one as well XD. Also, this deck was built for multiplayer, as noted in the tags. In that case, would this deck be viable?

Devotion isn't affected by other people's permanents if that is what you were thinking.

No, but Merchant is since it takes from each opponent XD

Oh… good point, still Abhorrent Overlord may be a problem.

Indeed. What would you recommend in place for it?

Sorry, missed your comment, how about Dark Prophecy, to help out your merchant?

It's a good card, but the triple black is quite daunting. Instead, I replaced it with Gift of Immortality. Maybe it would work well with the 'enter the battlefield' effect for merchant :)

Fair point.

If you are not interested in standard, there is cloudshift to flicker your arresters and merchants. Also, strionic resonator would be good in this deck since you have so many trigger abilities.

You are absolutely correct. What should I replace in stead of them?

I am still new to this somewhat so feel free to ignore me. For cloudshift, id take out the beckon apparitions, and for resonator I would take out one of each of the eidolons. If that performs well go ahead and throw in one or two more resonators.

Also, I don't really like the scholar in this deck, or in any deck. For the same amount of manage, you can cast kingpin's pet which does the same thing for one manage because of extort. It also has flying. Another extort creature I like is tithe drinker. It has extort and lifelink for two mana. I would definitely look at other creatures with extort because extort is powereful in multiplayer.
