Deck Description

This is for the most part a straightforward build of the Abzan Company deck. It has the obligatory 4 Chord/4 Company package as well as the traditional split of 4 Finks/1 Redcap, either of which can combine with Anafenza/Melira and Viscera Seer/Cartel Aristocrat to form the infinite combo. I went with a 3/2 split of Anafenza/Melira and Cartel Aristocrat/Viscera Seer to play around Extraction effects, in both cases favoring the card that's more functional in a normal game of Magic. Aside from combo pieces, the creature suite includes Noble Hierarch to ramp, a package of Swords to Plowshares, Naturalize, & Counterspell which can be tutored for via Chord (Fiend Hunter, Qasali Pridemage, Spellskite), and Eternal Witness, which is invaluable for buying back combo pieces, Company, Chord, or silver bullet creatures.
The inclusion of AEther Vial ideally provides a large mana advantage in the first 3-4 turns as well as an additional way to threaten the combo at instant speed. Vial occupies the slot that would belong to Birds of Paradise and/or Wall of Roots in a traditional build. The idea is that it's much better on turn 1, with the main deckbuilding cost being that it reduces the number of potential hits for Company and is a bad topdeck. Given that Birds was already a bad topdeck and the worst Company hit in the deck, I consider the cost more that acceptable for the upside that Vial offers. With Company, Chord, and Vial, this deck now has more ways to threaten the combo at instant speed than even the old Birthing Pod decks had.
Dryad Arbor serves many functions in this deck. It allows Chord to find a land, fetches to find a creature, and Vial to be profitably activated for 0. The rest of the land base is fairly straightforward. Gavony Township is often the best win condition in games where the combo is not viable. Catacombs & Heath are the fetches of choice over Marsh Flats for their ability to find Dryad Arbor. 2 of each on-color shock ensures any of my fetches can always find any of my colors. I prefer fetches and shocks over filter, pain, fast, or buddy lands because they give me the greatest degree of control over the speed/pain of my manabase in-game. The 2/2/1 basic split means that I can theoretically cast any of my spells through a Blood Moon (Chord via convoke, Redcap via nonbasics), though the AEther Vials mean that Blood Moon and other land hate will very rarely be able to cripple the deck.
