Deck Description

This deck is full of value (Tasigur, Den Protector, Kolaghan's Command, Outpost Siege), cheap interaction (Fiery Impulse, Complete Disregard, etc.), and powerful finishers (Woodland Wanderer, Sarkhan, Dragonlord Kolaghan). The general idea is to have answers for your opponent's threats and then drop a Woodland Wanderer on turn 4. I think Woodland Wanderer is the 4 drop Sarkhan has been wishing for all along, as it allows you to become very aggressive on turn 5 by attacking with both and the Vigilance allows Woodland Wanderer to protect Sarkhan. When all four colors are paid for Woodland Wanderer, the elemental and Sarkhan combine for 10 damage per turn to close the game out. The reason I chose Sarkhan is for the versatility. Jund wants to be as interactive as possible and wants value. So a finisher that doubles as a removal spell seems ideal. Along the same lines, Ob Nixilis is a source of card advantage while also providing additional removal.

Catacomb Sifter has been really impressive in this list. It's great against Mono Red, applies some pressure on an empty board, and the Scry is really nice against opposing removal. The biggest draw to playing Catacomb Sifter though, is the ability to ramp to 5 ahead of schedule. Ob Nixilis is so much more powerful coming down on turn 4. You're far more likely to be able to tick up and let Ob take a hit or two before being forced to respond to opponents' threats. Likewise, Sarkhan attacking a turn ahead of schedule or removing an opponents' threat the turn he comes down is big game. Generating tempo like that in this format is a tremendous boost.

Deck discussion for Jund

I feel like this deck wants to splash white for Crackling Doom...

I thought about it and I'm not sure I love Crackling Doom at the moment, not enough to add an additional color. I wanted to make the more consistent and conservative build first and adjust from there.
