Deck Description

So I've been doing a lot of thinking about Midrange decks... particularly, what's going to be the new midrange deck after Jund rotates out? The main thing that made Jund awesome was that every card in the deck was awesome. The midrange creatures like Olivia, Huntmaster, and Thragtusk were awesome. Bonfire of the Damned was awesome. Rakdos' Return was awesome. It had access to the best removal in the format. Heck, even its graveyard hate (Scavenging Ooze) was awesome! I started thinking about Selesnya (which I'll probably draft up as well), but another concept caught my eye. Master Biomancer. He's an aggressively costed creature and creates some ridiculous board conditions with your other creatures. If you're able to untap with one out, the game is all but over.

Even better is when you combo Master Biomancer with Progenitor Mimic or Kalonian Hydra. The games get absolutely insane.

Thus, Mimic Simic Midrange.

The deck uses all the basic platforms of midrange--mana-dorks combined with ramping spells and board control to keep you alive until your bigger creatures can hit the field. I also really like Scavenging Ooze not just for synergy in this deck but also because they might think you're going for an "All-in-ooze" strategy, and throw everything they have at it. Then you drop Progenitor Mimic and it's gg.

I also have a singleton Aetherling in here. Honestly, how many do you really need? He provides a bit of evolve synergy with his blinking, but that's pretty much it.

Now, lets talk about the Master Biomancer combos.

Lets say you get a turn 3 or 4 biomancer out and it sticks. His fat butt means not much is going to kill him in combat. A couple turns later, you drop a Progenitor Mimic, copying the Biomancer. Biomancer triggers and the mimic enters the battlefield as a 4/6 instead of a 2/4. The next turn, you'd get another copy of the biomancer, and BOTH biomancers would trigger, totaling six +1/+1 counters, making it an 8/10 instead of a 2/4. The following turn, you would get 14 counters, and the game ends soon thereafter.

Even better, if you do have some multiple Biomancer shenanigans (even if you just draw them without a mimic), Kalonian Hydra would double the counters on the second biomancer repeatedly, meaning that the next creature you cast would be a monster.

Now for the third combo, Progenitor Mimic and Kalonian Hydra. Nothing really happens from ETB effects, but when you're attacking with multiple Kalonian Hydras, things get out of hand, fast. They don't just double their own counters, each other hydra doubles the others counters as well. You're looking at swinging with two 4/4's to swinging with two 16/16's in a single attack phase. That's awesome.

So this is my attempt at a midrange deck that might actually be more like a Combo deck. I don't know, really. All I know is I really like it. However, it has some fundamental flaws.

Like I said earlier, Jund had access to the best removal in the format, and there is almost no removal available to GU. Simic Charm does its best, as well as Cyclonic Rift and some counterspells, but other than that I'm at a loss.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated!
