Deck Description

I've always wanted to make a Standard hydra deck, and I think the hydras we have now are darn near playable, and actually have a lot of cool synergy. Kalonian Hydra makes all of your hydras into massive threats, Bred for the Hunt and Zameck Guildmage make some great card draw engines, and scavenging ooze is a great low cost creature that can also nuke a lot of strategies while becoming an impressive beater himself.

I think the most interesting thing about the deck is that you have such flexibility with the curve. You never have to worry about casting a 1/1 savageborn hydra, because you know you'll probably be hitting another X mana cost very soon. Sylvan Caryatid helps smooth out the 3 color mana and give an additional boost to our multi-headed friends.

Comments and suggestions are always appreciated!

EDIT: Minimal testing indicates that Nylea is better than Bred for the Hunt--I want to be able to kill my opponents in one swing, and a lot of the time my Hydras will just get chump blocked. Also cut vastwood Hydra for gyre sage--still synergizes well, provides acceleration, and sometimes I just want to be able to gobble up the hydra with the guildmage, and vastwood doesn't really like that happening. Also costs 2X as opposed to 1, which kind of hurts.

Deck discussion for Slytherin Wins!!!

Really sweet deck. 3 changes to consider: xenagos could be really broken with all of the x costed stuff. Also, try out clan defiance as another finisher or removal spell. Last, simic charm seems way better than voyages end, given all of the removal out there. Versatility is always good, especially when it saves your creatures.

Try out ordeal of thassa too. Oftentimes it will just be a 2 mana divination that pumps your dudes by 1 more, since they'll generally already have some counters. Solid draw power for a counter build.

You've got a lot of really good suggestions here. Domri has been underperforming, so Xenagos could be really cool here. Clan Defiance is cool and a great mana sink, but I might just want to spend that mana on Zameck Guildmage and Savageborn Hydra. I just really like the card Voyage's End, since I believe bounce to be an amazing effect, and scry 1 on top is even better. But yes, you're right, simic charm is by far the better card here.

Ordeal of Thassa is a cute and interesting combo for this deck. I'm thinking that if it got swapped out, it would be with Zameck Guildmage, since they are both card draw engines. I think Zameck is more reliable right now and the ordeal does kind of set up a two for one. I will keep it in mind moving forward, however.

Thanks for the comment!
