Deck Description

A fun deck to play, consistent mana and overwhelming power of Dragon type creatures, plays well against creature based decks. Does not play too well against Mill/Burn decks.

How to Play

The strategy using the cards I use with high level creatures such as my dragons is being able to bring out the mana quickly while keeping the opponents side of the field cleared until a creature could be casted. I use split lands and artifacts to help bring my dragons out quicker along with spells like harrow which helps out in this 5 color deck.

Deck discussion for Dragon Alpha

Greetings!! I appreciate your desire to dominate the board w/ awe-inspiring creatures...& dragons, I mean seriously, right?! Nothing more iconic to Magic than that! The thing is, I see you having a hard time getting many creatures into play w/ your current build. Usually, to play fatties, one goes one of two routes (or both): either ramp 'em out, or cheat 'em out. Examples of the latter are Deathrender & Quicksilver Amulet; the former usually involves playing either elves or creatures w/ defender that produce mana. In the case of the elves, if you use all elves which are also druids (Llanowar Elves, Elvish Archdruid, etc.) there's an opportunity to steal all your opponent's lands if you run Gilt-Leaf Archdruid as well. In the case of creatures w/ defender, you can deal a lot of direct damage by running Vent Sentinel in concert, & lots of combat damage by running Assault Formation. There are creatures in both categories which produce all colors of mana, so you're not limited in terms of which creatures you choose to run as your finishers. However, as you noted in your "How To Play" segment, it's advisable to run in-color removal along w/ your rampers/cheaters & high-powered finishers. In closing, let me say that if I've spoken of things you were already aware of, don't take offense, but rather consider this to have been something in the way of an albeit meager tutorial for Magic new chums. Last but not least, good gaming! - & hope to see more decks soon!

I greatly appreciate the advice! I don't get play magic anymore, but I like checking out new cards and strategies. I never honestly used elves before but I do see what you mean by extra mana flow through low cost creatures through elves and others like humans as Druids. Personally I should of threw in some overgrown battlements in there for that extra small defensive play along with the extra mana jump. Ill definitely check out the cards you listed, I honestly haven't actually seen those cards before so I am very curious as to how much better this deck could truly be, I am assuming that this deck at least has potential??

I think there is good potential!

To expound on the mana ramp, I recommend Elvish Harbinger, which taps for any color mana and fetches another elf spell, and Elvish Archdruid, which taps for Green mana equal to the number of elves in play, while also giving all elves +1/+1. I would also recommend a Seething Song and/or Dark Ritual to help bring out Furyborn Hellkite, Hellkite Titan, or Malfegor. On the land front, Darigaaz's Caldera would work wonders with the focus on Red, Black, and Green mana that are already in the deck.

As far as cheating your way in, I have had good luck with Pattern of Rebirth and Game Preserve (always a gamble, but less so with lots of large dragons).

Don't ask me what to take out to support all these new cards, though, as I am terrible about bringing decks down to 60 cards.
