Deck Description

This deck is essentially mono black as far as devotion is concerned. I splashed in red for some really powerful creature removal, which was easy enough with the amount of available dual lands in modern. I'm not sure how well this deck would go in modern, but it seems pretty powerful.

Also, I am not too familiar with the modern meta, so any suggestions would be great, especially for the sideboard.

Let us know what you think =)

How to Play

The idea is to get out early powerful permanents with lots of black mana symbols (phyrexian obliterator, geralf's messenger etc.), and then play Gray Merchant of Asphodel for a shittonne of damage and lifegain, and then ggwp =)

Hi Jayden,

I love this deck build its very similar to my own essentially black devotion build. I have yet to acquire bloodghasts - fantastic card i suspect for this build - in its place i run 2 gatekeepers of malakir and two vamp hex mages. The gatekeepers are much stronger Most games I've played. My concerns with the build are against control match ups - so im thinking sideboarding in 4 vexing shushers. Not black devotion - but about the only way i can think to foil the classic Boston strangler control approach. The lands provide ample red for the shushers and even molten rains (affinity is huge in australia) I also only have two arenas so i replace that with a surgical extraction. I also run two swamps less - inquisitions instead - i pissed of a blue legacy fairie deck so much with all the early game control last night. :-)

Last night i played against a very expensive junk frights with goyfs, bob, voice of resurgence, and gavony townships with lingering souls. I won one and lost two, but they were very tight games (he was down to 4 & 5 life in the losing matches) that deck is worth $1000 easily. Im going to use rakdos charms in the sideboard for the tokens matchup and affinity.

A third arena and the bloodghasts will definitely improve the build for me.

Good luck

I also see (mostly in standard because I haven't been to a modern in a while) shrine to nix and with black, whip of erebos.

Personally, I wouldn't run more than 2 unless my deck ran on it.

Hey Jayden, i ve played it a lot for a week or so. Im not a fan of the bloodghasts - the gatekeeper of malakir is much stronger against most decks.

Im also considering a fourth arena - if you dont have one in the opening hand it can cost the game

The two swamps less doesnt have a negative impact for me

Love the extra black control surgicale xtractions
