Deck discussion for Which God Do You Worship?

Xenagos all the way,

Life should be filled with fun and pleasure! He symbolises everything that worshipping a god should be about!

Not piety or random killing or harming yourself, but doing what you love and him helping you do that all the time!

Just throwing it out there, random killing is part of what Xenagos finds fun. Revelry is not a bad thing per say, but it isn't all happy times and sunshine like you make it out to be. It is party, party, party, and anyone who doesn't join the dance and gets in the way gets dead real quick. That being said, Xena-god is best god

Marines have a saying when shooting a saw. "die fluffy bunny die." it supposed to be the right amount of timing it should take from start to finish before releasing the trigger. to give the right amount of rate of fire, before u start to lose control over the weapon's accuracy, and heat.

1

Yeah Keranos got like maybe hands down the best art. Soooo sweet.

0
Posted 06 April 2014 at 23:57

his ability is sweet too...

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 06:11

It absolutely is. I've been trying to build with him though, and unless he has a good chance of being a creature that ability doesn't seem to cut it. I haven't had any luck getting him to be a creature, I need a couple more highly relevant creatures to make the deck worth it IMO. Here's hoping for a sweet Fanatic/Prophet of Keranos as an enabler.

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 18:55

I don't even think that's necessary. As the saying goes "Splash Azorius". Keranos has America Control written all over him. That card draw plus the removal and faceburn potential? Its gonna be brutal.

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 19:00

I actually would tend to disagree. I don't think that "Splash Azorius" makes sense when "Play Azorius" is so much better. I don't think his ability adds anything drastic to the current builds of U/W/R, and with their top end consisting of hands down better things (like revelations) and no way to turn him into a creature, I don't know if he earns a slot. Unless I've missed something, I doubt I would pursue that route.

Grixis, on the other hand, has more trouble with card advantage but is more focused on burn (Rakdos's Return). That sounds like a shell where he may be of more use. I already have him in a test shell, right now I'm just looking for more relevant creatures. The problem is that any control shell and most burn decks are more focused on instants and sorceries, so he is less likely to get the necessary devotion to become a creature and therefore far less overpowered.

0
Posted 08 April 2014 at 22:09

Seven is a lot of devotion to build. I made this deck I plan to use when Nyx comes out. I lean on his ability to pressure my opponent and extra card draw. If I hit devotion it's another win condition.

http://www.mtgvault.com/planbfan/decks/izzet-my-turn/

Hopefully more Izzet spoilers to comes!

0
Posted 10 April 2014 at 09:09

The gods count towards their own devotion...
Besides, you don't need a god to be a creature for it to have a devastating effect. Gods like Mogis just destroy everyone just by being on the battlefield and in Izzet, Grixis and America control, Keranos will be devastating. In my opinion, more-so than a card like AEtherling

0

I would worship in the order of: Karametra, Nylea, and Ephara.

1. Karametra is the goddess of harvest. To stay alive, we must eat. She is who grants us the bounty of the land. Thus, I worship her first.
2. Nylea is the goddess of the hunt. To stay alive, we must eat. She is who grants us the games of the forest, but games may not feed us all. Thus, I worship her second.
3. Ephara is the goddess of knowledge. While we are alive, we actively seek knowledge. However, we cannot hope to better ourselves if we cannot stay alive. Thus, I worship her last :)

I also like the Greek goddesses I assume they are based off (Demeter, Artemis, and Athena, I think XD)

See, THREE out of the top 10 "decks" in the "hot decks" section are currently no actual decks! People are misusing the main feature this site has to offer. 1

As far as playability, id say iroas that was spoiled earlier. He is perfect for the boros four drop slot. As far as which gods philosophy I agree with it would be karametra. I feel that life is all about goodness and growth even though it doesn't seem like that sometimes. She has good stats which reflects that when she needs to she will protect what she promotes.

1

Yeah iroas looks amazing, you drop him turn four with a minor army and attack and win. :)

Thassa lays quitely controling the seas but when someone messes with her whether he's a god or not she's gonna crush her waves on him really fast and then she will prove her being superior. Besides she is the best god concerning gameplay all the others are nice but not good enough to match Thassa.

He's a great addition to decks that already have a bunch of creatures on the board. I don't think he will break the format. None of the gods have done that except Thassa. I would put him slightly above Ephara and a decent bit below Thassa. Right at Xenagos level good.

0

Um anybody would, in the case scenario in a control deck and/or a Bant Superfriends it would be perfect, Ajani Draws a card while Jace plays defensively, Kiora works towards her Ult and Elspeth produces dudes. You have access to Sphinx's Rev, D-Sphere, and Supreme Verdict which is all you need. You could Ult Ajani to ensure your opponents cannot win!!!!! It is an easy choice. Now in an Aggro and/or Midrange deck it wouldn't be as relevant but there are plenty of people who would ult him in a heartbeat!

Not only is he going to see extensive play in standard, he may even enjoy the limelight of modern. He's the best god since Thassa. You could even debate that he is better.

Let me put it this way. He takes one of the best aggro/weenie color combinations and hands it the thing it needs the most: a solid card advantage engine. Every time you try and remove a creature you have to make a decision: Take a Lightning Bolt to the face, or turn my premium kill spell into a glorified Unsummon? It may not seem like much, but this card is going to be a house. Also of note is the fact that he's incredibly undercosted and, just like the rest of the gods, is an indestructible beatstick.

Can you see him in standard paired with the B/W humans core? Now you have not 4, but 8 cards in the deck that make Supreme Verdicts useless. With this and Xathrid Necromancer, what do you do? A Verdict leaves their board basically the same and you at a lower life total. You're going to have to remove everything twice or more.

In modern he is going to do some stupid things with Geralf's Messenger and maybe Fulminator Mage.

Yes the only thing that's going to keep him fair is good old fashioned graveyard removal ladies and gentlemen. Sleeve up your Rest in Peaces.

The Boros go is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO broken
I mean, hey, you already have Aurelia and Tajic. And that's just in standard...
What about cards like Geselia? Also Lightning Helix!

Some times I think that there are too many OP cards in R/W

0
Posted 12 April 2014 at 22:53

...Have you seen many decks run Tajic? Ever? Or even Aurelia for that matter? Geselia is in the wrong block and still isn't played, and Lightning Helix doesn't interact with him at all.

This Standard the only Boros cards played are Warleader's Helix, Chained to the Rocks, Boros Charm, and Boros Reckoner. That's it. Boros always looks good but nobody has been really running it. No, this god may help bring some playability back to Boros.

Ajani has always liked Elspeth and she's always really liked him. Ajani has been to Theros before and even remembers Brimaz from before he was king so he may end up staying for a while once he's done helping his girl.

When you sit back and think about all of the 15 Gods WOTC has created you have to ask yourself are these Gods truly worth their value? I sit back as I play within the Standard Format and ask myself which God is worth running and/or playing? Truthfully Thassa, God of the Sea sees the most play and is MB as a 4 of, Erebos, God of the Dead follows in second as he was once a MB 1-2 of and now a SB 1-2 of, lastly we have Xenagos, God of Revels, seeing play in Standard G/R/X Devotion based decks as a 1-3 of at most. Ephara, God of the Polis, sees some play and I have seen her in Modern Hatebarers and is amazing, but once again you have to be devoted to play these Gods.

To some this long winded analysis when one plays around with the Gods it is like playing around Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded (honestly a mediocre planeswalker), you have to ensure you get the best value out of them. The God cards provide their own utility like that of a planeswalker you can make them extraordinary and/or they can remain buried in the memories that they failed to bring. My own opinion on the Gods are that I have my personal favorites yet I do not find myself playing with them to much. I have played around quite a bit with Purphoros, God of the Forge and truly enjoy him. Erebos, God of the Dead is another fun card, however I do not like the loss of 2 life for 1 card at a 2 mana price, I would much rather pay for a Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, and/or 3 mana for a Read the Bones. Needless to say the Gods can be potentially dangerous and amazing but I believe they are like Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded and fall short of the glory they could have had!!!

0
Posted 22 April 2014 at 02:49

Yes I totally agree, that you have to make a deck around a god not just stick a god in a deck, same with tibalt, in most decks he is terrible. :)

0
Posted 23 April 2014 at 02:18

You can just chuck a god into a deck, the problem is finding a suitable deck to put them in. I'm running 2 Xenagos in a Hydra deck becase of the extra power he gives and he was added later because he fitted in well

0
Posted 23 April 2014 at 02:35

Agreed, the Gods are building blocks to strategies. I love using Erebos in a deck that has Devour Flesh. Devotion is a great mechanic however I went more of a control route with mono-black and later added blue making the deck Blue/Black control. I cut the Gods all together but utilize Ashiok, Jace, and Aetherling. Elixir is a 1 of in the deck, I use Far // Away Essence Scatter, Doom Blade, Hero's Downfall, Thoughtseize, Psychic Strike, and Pilfered Plans. I found in my local Meta Essence Scatter is an amazing 4 of in the deck because I run into a lot of creature heavy decks and Control is slow against them, however removal and straight counters work great, another reason for the deck disruption.

Personally I believe the Gods are unique and provide a unique take on the format and are great additions. In some ways I would not mind seeing a Return to Kamigawa if they made it similar to Theros and added some Gods, however WOTC Promised they would never return to Kamigawa because the set seemed to fall flat I guess.

Pharika for style and flavor. Iroas for gameplay. Ephara if for real.

Oh definitely Keranos. I mean, what's better than telling the future through prophecies while also striking down your enemies in a thunderous rage? All the knowledge and power you could ever want sounds to me like the best deal you could offer.

Also, I can't leave Thassa hanging. I mean, they are somewhat similar in their behavior as for prophecy and wisdom sometimes followed by the occasional smite or massive scale of destruction

I think he is referring to Nicol Bolas AKA Smaug, lol

Very possible. Or smaug was really niv-mizzet, out-smarting the dwarves and simultaneously casting mizzium mortars.

Strategy wise, he's amazing. He's one of the cheapest to cast, and that especially helps in his colors if you're doing an off white weenie. He'd work well with stuff like sin collector and precinct captain in my opinion, but with all the exile about to be running around, using small, untargetable creatures and possibly not having enough devotion to make him a creature seems like the grave-play thing should be running for a while.

Flavor wise, he's a gross-looking dingy guy who wades through dead people in a river.

i mean. even if you don't get his devotion to make him a creature. a 3 mana indestructable enchantment with his ability is just fantastic. everything your opponent does as far as getting rid of your creatures goes is either useless or comes at an added cost. sure there's gonna be more exile than usual, but not enough to make him not worth playing

Well, his price certainly shows that. I mean, he's got at least $10 more on his price tag compared to all the others, and I'm sure he's going to go places, maybe past standard.

Also, I think adding all of the temples when they come out would be interesting to put up for each god.

As much as I enjoy playing with Xenagos in RG Monsters, Keranos is an absolute house just on its own, which is something that's not true of the other gods, as good as they may be.

Well and anything he does for you can help just about any deck that can play him in. I've actually seen quite a few very competitive RUG decks with him and Kruphix as the MVPs
