Deck Description

Creatures don't always turn out the way you'd think!

This is a Budget Elder Dragon Highlander deck (BEDH). It is meant for the Elder Dragon Highlander format, a.k.a. Commander. If you are not familiar with the format, I'll link it below for you.

I mostly use MTG Vault for my own private projects nowadays, but feel free to comment or request a deck of your choice. I've loved the Vault so far, and I like that they are still improving on it, as well as I am improving on my English language skills.

So, if you like what you see, consider checking out some of my other budget-y work from the link below.

How to Play

This deck was in the making for quite a while, and I'm sorry for it. I don't know how many actually check these decks out, but I still try to keep up my standards of publishing at least a deck or two in a week. Sometimes that number is quite a lot higher!

Anyway, this deck is something I've always loved the idea of: Creature transformation! Drop some tokens on board, then transform them using cards like Polymorph and Transmogrify. Since this deck is filled to the brim with high-cost creatures, you'll play them far cheaper this way!

So, beating opponents down with big creatures is possibly the main wincon here. This deck also includes a ton of spell-copying effects, so you can try to win by unleashing an awesome barrage of comets (via Comet Storm) or performing multicopied version of Inspired Ultimatum. Even Nomads' Assembly can win you the game, provided you can copy it multiple times, perhaps combined with Jeskai Charm's group buff-up.

Statistics, pros and cons. Consider reading these, especially if you are a newbie!

Pros:
+ Doesn't really care about its commanders. You can even polymorph them if needed!
+ Just may win you the game on turn 4 or something by getting a huge unremovable beatstick.
+ Chaotic and fun to play.

Cons:
- Very unreliable: you are unlikely to get the cards you exactly need.

Deck discussion for BEDH: Unexpected Alteration

I love the randomness this deck has to offer, but there are ways to improve the odds of activating the transformations faster.

Method one: abuse morph...
Casting an otherwise big creature as a morphed creature makes sure you get the results faster.
Sure, the number of big morph creatures is minimal, but theres gotta be a decent kickstarter among them.

Method two: use deceivers...
The cycle of deceivers has one in each color. They are cheap, and they can look at the top of your library allowing you to time your transformation spells.

I'd love to see the deck gain more creatures to make it even more chaotic, when you use mass polymorph.

Since you also use a number of manaproducing artifacts, why not start playing phyrexian metamorph as well ?
You can either play it to copy an artifact or copying an opponents creature allowing you to transform it, or you can copy something powerfull already in play as long as it isn't legendary.

In a few cases you might end up transforming into the metamorph, and in that case you make the best of it, by copying the best artifact or the best creature around. Since it's edh, they are pretty sure to have some mana artifacts too.

By using these ideas you could potentially play some more powerfull commanders. Maybe there is a commander that scry?

Anyways, Maelstrom Djinn and Akroma, Angel of Wrath might be worth a look.
If you keep the two commanders you already got, these two can be a backup plan if someone locks your commanders down somehow.

The deceivers are:

Brutal Deceiver and Callous Deceiver

The last idea will be to use a few cheap theft spells, kidnap something then transform it away.

A helpful set of ideas. I'll consider some of these.

No problem.
It's rare that a chaotic element is introduced into magic decks, so supporting that kind of crazy is a way to have great fun. I had my own days with a deck I called dirtfish. It was based on merfolk with a splash of green to add summoning trap, and gaea's cradle was in it to abuse merrow reejerey. I played some fun blue creatures in that, like in well leviathan. I was also secure against "omnitell" at that time by using Kederekt Leviathan that had unearth, which bounced omniscience or whatever the opponent choose to show and tell, and I could cast it from the grave as well for 1 cheaper. A lot of the red spells that draw and discards will make it a nice addition.

Hey, maybe add show and tell and sneak attack too :)

Reality Scramble is already here: I've loved the card since it was first spoiled.

Have you thought of choosing creatures based on their type so they form a circle or small web that you can use to navigate through with reality scramble. You might have all creatures in pairs, like two dragons, two humans and so on, so if you get one in play that you dislike you know exactly what you will get instead. Forming a circle like dragon horse
Which can take you to either the dragon leech or the fish horse will allow you to get two choices. At least that's how I read the card.

If it works a web might be even better.

I think Reality Scramble only checks for card types, not subtypes like Dragon or Leech.

Reality Scramble can send any permanent into your library, not just creatures. If you happen to shuffle an Artifact Creature into your library, you'll reveal cards until you reveal either an Artifact or a Creature, no matter if the card meets the another criteria or not.

Now that I think of it, it could be fun to design a deck around Reality Scramble so you could pull off weird "evolutionary cycles" with the card, such as Creature > Artifact Creature > Enchantment Artifact > Enchantment Creature > Enchantment, or something like that. I would be entertaining how you could get a card like Mirror March or Swarm Intelligence ultimately from a creature like Raging Goblin.

It would have to be planned very carefully :)
A big number of enchantment creatures might be an opening.
Perhaps there are some triple type permanents out there. Gods are an option.
