Godsend is for exiling creatures and making your creatures bigger, haunted plate mail is for either making your creatures bigger or just being a 4/4, colossus of akros is for blocking stuff and killing the stuff it blocks, or being a frikcing 20/20, scuttling doom engine is for burn and being a 6/6 (that could be unblockable), soul of new phrexia is for making your creatures indestructible, chief engineer is for making it easier to get your artifacts out, bident of thassa is for card draw and making your opponenets creatures attack so you can kill them or so they're tapped, whip of erebos is for returning cards from your graveyard and lifegain, and Sorin is for lifegain, getting vampires, beefing up creatures, and making your opponents sack creatures.
