Deck Description

While I was building my Illusion deck, the owner of my local Magic shop suggested I make a Spirit deck that focused on Favorable Winds, Drogskol Captain, and Spirit Token creation. This is the current result. i know it can be pushed further.

I think what the deck currently lacks is a way to protect the Captain, which might end up being Robe of Mirrors, which was my answer to protect the Lord of the Unreal in my illusions deck. I could run Mizzium Skin, but IDK.

I've also considered splashing black into the mana base so I can use Lingering Souls instead of Midnight Haunting.

Update: Thank to some helpful suggestions, I've discovered Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, which is going to be a great option to protect those Drogskol Captains! (Here's looking at you Muktol :D). I've also included some other more mana efficient spirits (thanks tProdigy) and decided to go Esper with this, including Lingering Souls.

Spell Queller also seems like a good option, especially since it wrecked in Standard when it was still legal.

How to Play

I have only played this against myself, but I play it just like I do my illusion deck: get out the Lord, in this case the Drogskol Captain, throw out a favorable wind, throw out some spirits, make some spirit tokens, everyone gets +2/+2 as long as Favorable Winds and the Captain are on the board.

Deck discussion for Modern Esper Spirits

As you don't play any spells that need to target one of your creatures you could use Kira, Great Glass-Spinner to protect Drogskol Captain. At least you opponent needs two spells to successfully remove him. Another option could be Mausoleum Wanderer, which is also a great offensive card and is played in nearly every spirit deck I've seen so far, or spells like Dispel (or Mana Leak) to counter those spells.
Another great, tough expensive (cmc) card would be Drogskol Reaver, which I would use instead of Gallows Warden.
I also would definitely add black as third colour. Add some searchlands and 1-2 swamps and/or some duallands. Lingering Souls is too got not to be used here. Spectral Procession could also be an option tough it's triple white mana-costs are something to worry about. If you're looking for a slower but more steady token generation option then you could also take a look at Twilight Drover.

Greetings
Muktol

Holy crap! Kira, Great Glass-Spinner is awesome! I'm so glad to have met this card! I wish there was an Illusion like this as well for my Mono Blue Illusions deck! I have Drogskol Reaver (only one) in my collection. Would you consider him only a one of, since his CMC is so high? Thanks again Muktol! Greeting to you as well good sir. :D

+1 for the deck now.
Well Kira wouldn't work in an illusion deck because there it's enough that they get targeted...the spell doesn't even need to be cast successful from what I remember tough you could use it to give Lord of the Unreal some protection (Even if there are better cards for this like Lighning Boots.)
Once should be enough, if you feel that he is superior to Geist-Honored Monk then you could remove the monk and add another Reaver instead.

Kira would only target the fragile illusions like Phantasmal Dragon, which explicitly state, "When (fragile illusion) becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it." Mainly, I would only use Kira to protect the Lord of the Unreal, but I also run enough illusions without the fragility that she could target as well.

Also, Kira's a flyer, which means if I run Favorable Winds in the deck, along with Lord of the Unreal, she would get +2/+2 if all 3 were on the board. I've also recently discovered that Favorable Winds does not explicitly target creatures, so even the fragile one can still glean the +1/+1 buff as well.

Lightning Boots could also work, or Swiftfoot Boots. Cheer mate!

I'd highly recommend Lingering Souls. It's one of the best cards in modern right now.

I'd also recommend Mausoleum Wanderer and Rattlechains. Both incredible creatures for the Spirits archetype.

Yeah, Rattlechains is on my radar, but I missed Mausoleum Wanderer, which is a great option. I've also considered using Selfless Spirit as well. Thanks for the input! Cheers! :D
