Deck discussion for Path to Revelation

I would add some stony silences to the board for they are pretty efficient to shut down affinity and affinity is a terrible match, I would not run elixirs in the board, they just have to many weaknesses in modern. :)

like it alot! glad you are getting into modern! devestation wave x1 and aetherspouts x2(tops) come to mind on this list, then geist of saint traft seems like a good fit here too

Oh yes, geist of saint traft is so good, if you are in a control matchup and they tap out thinking, ''well the're not going to twin me out'' and you play geist and they pretty much lose. :)

yes they do, and he is hard as all hell to get rid of. i played a guy running a fuull playset of him, and they had rogues passage as a land to make him unblockable, it was absolute nonsense. i lost quite badly

Have you considered runechanters pike?

better off with sword of light and shadow or sword of fire and ice...

I agree with Z. Runechanter's first strike won't do much if he's unblockable. Also snapcaster will be plucking fuel for the runecaster away. Of the two swords, I would pick Fire and Ice. The card draw might serve better than the creature return, unless you draw into a terminus. Its a risk I would take.

Or you could go a different way and put a Loxodon Warhammer in to increase the beats and gain life. Trample wouldn't do much, but who cares. Your aetherling could pound for 11 and it would be a 22 point swing with your life gain.

Or you could go with Moonsilver Spear after a board wipe and start manufacturing some angry angels.

Ha! Ok. So Fire and Ice it is?

Actually, I would vote for Umezawa's Jitte. The protections of the swords aren't as necessary as long as you can exile your guy at will. The charges on the Jitte remain, so when he gets back he can use them. Some pretty good options there too.

On a side note... have you considered Hindering Light instead of Remand? It also lets you draw a card, but doesn't put the card back into the opponent's hand. Other than tempo, I don't really see the advantage of handing the spell back to the evil bad guy.

Anyway, its a hugely powered deck! More brooms than the witches' warehouse!

As a side note... I'm impressed by Sphinxes Revelation, but I wonder if it will work in play. 3 to get it started and then whatever you pump in for X, it might net less than ideal benefit. Maybe if there was a storage land?

You should consider running some cryptic command. This card just do everything.

As a Control player in modern believe me when I tell you:

-3 Concentrate
+3 Cryptic Command

Now I run both :)

Realized that Revelation ain't so good in Modern, so I replaced it with Cryptic Command & also changed Remand to it...

why aetherling, just wondering... i would suggest maybe batterskull, i really like telling time in here too

AEtherling is harder to dealt with... ...he's more relyable as a finisher...

I'm not sure about that question aetherling is almost like a guarenteed finish so for control its perfect.
