Deck Description

This deck was made as part of the Obscure Card Challange:
http://www.mtgvault.com/puschkin/decks/obscure-card-challenge-occ/

The challange was to make a deck basing on Uba Mask. It reads:
"If a player would draw a card, that player exiles that card face up instead.
Each player may play cards he or she exiled with Uba Mask this turn."

The crucial things I am going to exploit are:
A) Once the Mask hit play, everybody has to use the cards they "draw" right away, otherwise they'll lose them.
B) As long as the Mask stays in play, their hand size will stay the same or shrink but not increase anymore (sans some rare exceptions)

Check out the How to play section for further information.

How to Play

Torture Wheel:
Since players won't be able to increase hand size anymore, this is my weapon of choice.

Lore Broker:
Helps me finding key cards early on. Later it will deplete everyone's hands and therefore combos with Torture Wheel. Make sure to activate it during your own turn, so the opponent has less (with Teferi out no) chance to use the card.

Teferi:
Key card since I am going to give my opponents cards. If I do so during my own turn they won't even be able to cast instants, which are then exiled with Mask in play.

Indentured Djinn:
Very cheap midrange flyer. With a Mask in play, the drawback is negliable. If you also have Teferi, then there is no drawback, just frustrated enemies that are exiling their library.

Arcane Denial:
Same here. Normally, Arcane Denial means card disadvantage. However, you typically counter stuff in your opponent's turn. That means you'll both draw cards from Denial in YOUR turn. And with a Mask out, the opponent will most likely lose those cards.
However, the problem with Arcane Denial is that you need to have it in hand when you play the Mask - if you draw it later, you'll have no target and it will get exiled.

Voidmage Prodigy:
That's why you have this guy! You can play it right away and use him as a counterspell later. Note that Teferi is a wizard, too.

Misthollow Griffin:
Sometimes you won't be able to cast everything right away either and then stuff gets exiled. That's fine because this Griffin can be cast from exile. If you also have Teferi out, you can even cast him during opponent's turns from exile ... "it came out of NOTHING!"

Forced Fruition:
Now we are getting nasty. If you have this and a Mask out, there isn't much left the opponent could do. He can't assemble a dreamhand but if he tries to nake use of the things he draws before they get exiled, he will deck himself pretty fast.

Fabricate:
Jim Carrey, go get the Mask.

Merchant Scroll:
An attempt to fix the problem with the Arcane Denials.

Time Spiral:
If you have no Mask, you can play this to get and play one. If you have a Mask, Time Spiral is like Mind Twisting everyone (while you are the only one that can make use of the extra cards).

Mishras:
In decks like these it is always a good idea to have some emergency blockers ready that will survive Wrath of Gods and similar.

Very nice. A bit pricey, but has great core combos.

Up for another challenge?
Can you make a deck with Volrath's Dungeon?

The problem with that card is that anybody can destroy it by paying life. It is pointless to build a deck around a card that has it's own removal built in. I could build a deck around the concept of Volrath's Dungeon but it would not contain the Dungeon itself.

There are cards, right, that disallow someone to pay life to destroy stuff....right?
Like Angel of Jubilation?

I seen the card and thought all sort of neat stuff could be done with Dungeon.
But you are right...opponent would pay the 5 life every time.

Urm, yes, but that adds another card (with a restrictive mana requirement no less) you have to have in play just to make one working. I am all for making odd cards work but there is a point where it gets a bit silly.
We could do it anyway and just pretend the line about paying life wasn't there :P

No, you are right.
I just see weird/interesting cards and the first thing I think now is, "Hmm...what could Puschkin do with this?"

Well, sometimes even Puschkin locks them up in the closet ;)
