Deck Description

Just let the Wanderer take you to new unexplored lands, preferably on turns 3, 4, and 5. Hey if ya didn't know by now the ability "Cascade" let's you flip the top of your deck until you hit a card with cmc less than the casted cards cost. This ability is on cast and therefore resolves before the card with cascade! And Maelstrom does it twice! This means that jokulhaups, apocalypse, and your other cascade's all resolve before maelstrom wanderer. Neat!
I've been playing Maelstrom Wanderer as a commander for about 4 years now and have played multiple variants of this deck. Started out with big creatures at first. Then Went to a spell slinger build with heavy ramp and extra turns which was actually quite powerful even without the expensive cards and fastest mana. He's just a very powerful commander and it's hard to make a bad deck with him as your leader. My most recent version was a superfriends list based on getting free Plainswalkers. Which was also a very fun deck to play.
The problem I've been having with building a good and fun Maelstrom wanderer deck is that he's just too strong to play at causal tables almost every time, in every meta. Might as well make a competitive deck list then! This is my personal take on a competitive Maelstrom Wanderer deck and this is not a perfect build by any means. I've been thinking about this bad boy for a long while now though so it should be pretty good I think. But if you have any cards that you think I should add please let me know and I will consider them.
Somewhere along the line I needed faster ways to win so this is now a food chain/turns Maelstrom Wanderer deck! The goal is to draw or take enough turns via cascade triggers from ramping out the Wanderer and eventually either assembling a food chain combo with the card Food Chain and either Eternal Scourge, Squee the Immortal, Misthollow Griffin, or beating everyone to death with your wanderer on extra turns.
This deck also runs spicy cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Brainstorm, Conch Horn, and RIverwise Auger which help you put your expensive and powerful cards on top for you to cascade for free! Cascading into a Jace and an Apocalypse from my hand or library with a tutor seems really good to me.. Still playtesting so I'll probably be making a couple changes soon. Let me know what you think in the comments yo!
