Jeskai charm provides extra protection against creatures, but is really great at creating surprise wins from its burn ability. The lifelink pump is almost always irrelevant, but when it counts, it REALLY counts (elspeth, pearl lake, sarkhan)

Ever consider Monastery mentor or soulfire grandmaster?

Actually no! But, Soulfire Grand Master would be really good here with the charm and especially with anger. Mentor seems off because 3 mana is when most of my removal comes online, not when I want to be casting creatures. Thanks for the comment (:
