Deck Description

The actual mana curve, considering the suspended cards:
CMC: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
Cards: 4 | 20 | 6 | 4

The mana curve doesn't matter much, however. The most important thing about this deck is playing the right things at the right time. A single spell like Smallpox can either kill you, your opponent, or both. This deck utilizes some of black's most powerful effects -- make your opponents suffer, sacrifice. If able, definitely play Curse of the Cabal on turn four, it creates a psychological effect on your opponent(s), and their plays would be rushed, and they will constantly have to worry about whether to sacrifice now, or to sacrifice more later. A simple play like that, can win you the game. There are also quite a lot of removal in this deck. A well-played infest can be equivalent to a board-wipe for your opponent. Nihilith's special ability needs to be carefully calculated -- you might not want to remove the counter, until the board is completely stabilized in your favor.

The sideboard is just cards that I'm considering using for the deck. This deck is still under playtesting..

Please rate, comment and criticize this deck! I will return the favor!

This deck is MODERN!

Deck discussion for Monoblack Control ($10)

I really like the deck the only thing i would consider is card draw in form of Reid the bones or if you are willing to spend some money underworld connection.

That is a very interesting idea, I will consider it. I'm glad you liked the deck, thanks!

Nice deck, thumbs up! Try to add a few things that remove suspend counters.

Thanks, I would have to splash other colors though... I'm testing out how fury charm does right now...
Curse of the cabal works either if it is suspended or not, if it is suspended, the opponent will constantly have to worry about it, and it rushes their plays.

23 doesn't equal 10, just a heads up.

When I look at the price, I look at the lowest price box, the medium pricing is overpriced anyways.

The median price of the deck, which is the most likely price to buy the deck, is $23. The absolute minimum, and least likely price to buy the deck, is $10. Most people go by the median price because it's most realistic.

*I got what he meant, and edited my comment as you wrote yours, so it might seem out of order.
The minimum means that I can get cards with that price, which means that there is only shipping to calculate, but it would just be silly if I count the shipping within the deck price. I get what you are saying though, and I will take that into consideration when I name my future decks. Thanks!

Most hobby shops sell singles for median price, as do most people that sell cards in general.

That was ignorant of me, I assumed that most people got cards from TCGPlayer... that's where I get my cards, and so far I have not been able to find a price lower than theirs.

what about just pox instead of smallpox

Sorry, this deck is suppose to be modern... and also, pox costs a lot of money, so I won't be able to use it for a budget deck... Thanks for the suggestion though!

find a space for vampire hexmage to remove the time counters.

Vampire hexmage can't remove time counters because the suspended cards are not permanents, they are still in the exile zone.

What is the win condition?

0

The win condition is to slowly drain them out of life, although I have still yet to find a very good way to do that... do you have any suggestion as to how I would be able to do that? :3 thanks!

Grave Titan, maybe 2?

It might be expensive

Yeah... Grave Titan is out of my budget...

maybe corrupts or something similar would work for the life drain. They're cheap and if it's turn 7 it'll probably be at least a 12 point life swing.

That's a cool Idea... corrupt or exsanguinate... hmmm

Why have you added red cards to the sideboard?

the sideboard is just cards that I'm still considering adding, I've been experimenting with different combination of cards in this deck...

I'm considering splashing red to remove time counters...

0

Yeah red might also be some good win condition, i.e. Burn, lighting bolt

1

Also red has some good board sweepers

Yep definitely splash red, maybe Rakdos guildgates would be good.

I don't participate in FNM's, I do play kitchen table magic with a lot of my friends though, I don't spend much money on Magic, that's why I make budget decks. I'll take a look at your deck. Thanks!

Lots of removal, but you might want to think about some draw. Removal lives or dies on what it's got in its hand. Luckily, Black's got some pretty rad stuff going. Sign in Blood is always amazing, Decree of Pain just got a cool looking reprint (great for lategame, useful if drawn a little earlier). Also consider Phyrexian Arena, Phyrexian Rager and Underworld Connections.

Also think about Necroplasm: it's a great little card that'll keep the board clear until you need to make a bigger play.

Thanks for those suggestions! I'll test them out!

Really nice deck. I just think you should use some life drain in the sideboard against izzet or burning decks. Phyrexian arena in main should take care about the draw.

1

Phyrexian Arena would not fit in the buget :(
Life drain is a good idea -- any specific cards you want to suggest?

Consume spirit should go well.
I have a monoblue standard budget and a monoblack burn, can you help too?

Thanks!

What about Exsanguinate?
I will check your deck out.

0

Exsanguinate is good if you are playing in group or another mod... I'd rather Consume Spirit, but the effect as sideboard is approximated the same.

Thanks!

Yes, this deck could do with some more blue, too. Why are you not using any Hedron Crabs? Even that flying black thing that is also blue that steals cards could help.

As I stated on my other deck
your monoblue deck can use some black card, even one like smallpox :P

No, you should run more islands. They are very nice. Have you ever been to one? They have water around them.
