Deck Description

Hello everyone! I have come to you once again with a mill deck. I also own this deck in real life and I must say it really works. I have won many modern events at my local game store with this deck and it has practically payed for itself. If you enjoy mill, while actually having a good deck, then this deck is for you.

I hope you like the deck, sorry if this deck is not for you, but I try my hardest to make enjoyable decks that contain blue. Have a nice day.

How to Play

I recommend looking up detailed guides online regarding control. If I were to explain control to you, I would have to write a book! Thank you for checking my deck, but now I must go spend time with my waifu.

Deck discussion for Gentleman's Mill

How does this deck do against other top tier decks? What do you think are good/bad match ups for this deck?
Have fun with your waifu.

Definetely good matchups would be slower control decks and combo decks, you start doing your shenanigans very early in the game so control may not have a chance to get a footing in the game. Combo on the other hand can be one of the easiest matchups ever, this is due to milling their wincon(s) and simply casting Surgical Extraction or Extirpate.

Bad matchups include fast aggro decks and "value" midrange decks, not really a surprise. Unless you sideboard boardwipes the aggro matchup is very tough. Midrange will just simply outvalue you in the long run and beat you down.

I've been doing well with this deck at my local game store, but it they aren't always as competitive or prepared as they should be. Thank you for taking a look at my deck, I hope you have a wonderful day. In regards to your statement about my waifu, yes I will.

Could you post your sideboard so that I may glimpse the unthinkable nature of this competitive mill?
I'm trying to build a Mill deck myself, and I am torn between whether I should plan for removal or simply try to outspeed their Aggro with my spells. The deck can mill as early as turn 4, with a consistent turn 5-6 win. It rarely takes longer than 7 turns, but this is a bit slow in the modern meta. The sideboard would be appreciated!
This deck has earned a like from me.

No shelldock isle? Most pro's use 3, I prefer 2 but might cut down to 1 in the future.

I'm trying to break aggro with UBR burn&mill, but it will take a long time for me to do it the way I always do it.
Slow considerate progress and lots of tests with proxy-decks.

Figured you'd find this deck eventually...

I don't personally run shelldock isle, because I think it's a bit too slow. If it's working for you then feel free to use it.

KJS3: I hunt!
But I can use a pointer now and then :)

SCHOLAR:
When I design decks I usually do massive testing to find the right numbers, which means I usually remember what everyone else use as well as what I prefer to use, so I can follow you in being independant about cardpicks.
I would like to point out that most registered top 8 wins with modern mill uses shelldock isle, so the card must have something going for it :D Beyond that fact I personally think the favored number of 3 shelldock is way to much, and as stated I'm starting to use only one. My statistics for it is that it's only working a little above 50% of the time, but when it works it usually delivers the kill. It can be used in different ways as well.

It's not always that people notice what shelldock isle can be used for:
When I play one of these I always study the 4 cards carefully, evaluating if it's better to get a fetchland in play to support some crabs, or if I can cast entering from breaking/entering to steal something valuable from a grave, or if I can count on using mind funeral with enough lands gone from the opponent library to be lethal.

how do you feel about just cutting white? I think you are better off with damnation, languish, or a package of 1 murderous cut, 2 slaughter pact, 1 smother.

I think white is good enough to splash just for Path to Exile. It's very cheap removal that I can use on big threats such as Tarmo, Rhino, Tasigur, Gurmag, etc. I would gladly use dismember instead, but sometimes paying the life is just too threatening, especially against Jund or Abzan. Damnation is a good card that you can use in this deck, but I don't believe it can replace early spot removal as it is too slow.

Thank you for your input and have a wonderful day.

Cutting a color always rob you of a lot of options. Most of the meta runs 3colors+
If dismember is to harsh, support with crypt incursion.

Damnation is damned slow. I have been toying with black sun's zenith for that reason against the faster aggro out there, but in the end I might use both in sb for versatility

not a problem. im not sure how much you actually lose cutting white here... just because 50% of the meta is at 3c doesn't mean every deck should be..i guess since its the only white card I feel a little off by it, but maybe it gives some good sb options

thanks for discussing gents

White adds plenty to mill-designs depending on strategy type, but yes, white is best for sb options, as UB does not have so many tools against artisfacts or enchantments as white does.

And there's allways a reason as to WHY the meta consists of more than 50% of 3cc.

I'm working on perfecting a BRU mill. It won't be finished soon, but it does work better than any of my past designs!
