Deck Description

A master of the elements like the Avatar before him, meet the RUG King of Creatures himself, Animar, the Soulbender! His hardy appetite for creatures will satisfy the hunger of any Magic mage looking to pummel opponents with fat badies. Simple enough to play, just ramp with green and let the fat-ass creature circus loose! This deck was expensive for my taste, but the possibility of getting Kozilek or Ulamog out for virtually nothing (or literally, in late-game cases) was too tempting to resist. Any suggestions and/or comments are welcome!

Deck discussion for The Soulbender: Animar EDH

I would recommend Ocrale of Mul Daya over Courser of Kruphix because you can play an extra land each time then. Also Maybe remove Consecrated Sphinx? Its a great card and I love it but normally once it hits the field then everyone else will want to copy it and have one themselves. I don't know how it is in your group.

You're right, I really should go with Oracle of Mul Daya instead. I just threw Courser of Kruphix in as a better 3-drop than Farhaven Elf, but Oracle is worth the one extra mana. No way in hell am I taking Consecrated Sphinx out. Sure, when he hits the board everybody wants one, but they need to be able to do it first. More times than not they can't copy in time for me to have used that card advantage to fuck them over already. I appreciate the comment and suggestions!

Yeah, your's was one of the decks I used for inspiration. I don't have the wallet girth to build a deck quite as strong as that one, but I think I did an admirable job nonetheless considering this one tears it up as well.

Well I know the work that goes into brewing a monster EDH deck so you're definitely welcome, dude. I certainly am enjoying it! So much so I'm trying to amp up my other EDH decks just so they can compete with it, ha.

Yeah, man, I have an Olivia EDH deck, which I see you discovered, and a Grand Arbiter EDH deck. I'm currently tweaking both of them to get the card flow better because they can't keep up with this one, ha.

This is pretty much exactly how I'd build Animar! You might like Aluren in the deck.

Though it certainly would benefit me more than anyone with this type of deck, I just hate helping out my opponents in any way, haha. Even though EDH is supposed to be multi-player and about pulling off jank-ass shit rather than competitive, I can't help feeling like a jackass when I drop down something like that and it immediately comes back to haunt me once I pass the turn, haha. I did strongly consider it, don't get me wrong, because it is awesome but I just couldn't get over the idea of helping them too, ha.

In my Momir Vig deck Aluren pretty much means I win on the spot, so I guess I don't really think of the 'drawback' that often. You also run curio though, so I figured you'd get more benefit than anyone as well. Looking through you deck at the magic number 3 or less creatures, I see several new win conditions with active Aluren + Curio or Aluren + Tidespout Tyrant.

Hmmm maybe I'll play test it then just to see how much I like it. I do have Tidespout Tyrant as well so I can throw him in there also. But yeah, I'll definitely include the cards on my play testing app and see how much I like them. Thanks for the suggestions!

Probably want to put a few more fancy cards in to make the average price over $1,000. Otherwise I wouldn't change anything.

Haha, yeah man, everybody and their momma's knows that's the key to EDH success. Seriously though, if I didn't see how fun those fancy cards are to play with Animar I wouldn't have bothered to get them, but I gotta admit it's a stompy good time, like a good ol' fashioned hoedown.
