On the record, I have played this deck a few times since the eye ban and it still contends with the decks that have returned/moved in with the power vacuum. Burn and Affinity are a nuisance and Karn still wrecks shop without Teeg on this build, but the number of neutral/favorable matches still makes this solid choice.

Yes I know it's a month later and my experience won't match everyone's but I still wanted to share.

Only thing I can complain about is it highlights why we can't have bloodbraid elf in modern. Take this worth a grain of salt this is coming from a punishing jund player in legacy who has nothing better to do than whine about how more of his deck doesn't port.

It's really refreshing to see a Jund List that doesn't revolve around Liliana, Bob and Goyf. Powerful though the cards are they seem to create a sense of tunnel vision of I must include these. Cool list.

I don't know if it falls in anyone's budget but esper control and bant ghostway are pretty good at playing the die game and seem to do pretty good in the current meta. At least where I play (skill level ranges from I go to SCG opens to hey look at my homebrew so it may not be the best field of data)

All the matches I had against the eldrazi involved the pilot going pedal to the metal. I don't know if it was because they drew "that part of the deck" or if it was meant to be the zerg rush all the way.

Even if you don't like her in this brew after testing, I support picking up a few eternal witness as well. She's great in a variety of decks.

Actually I don't think the deck is ill prepared for 8-rack in the sideboard as you have 7 answers to the rack effects and ensnaring bridge lock which combined with surgical extraction should swing the tide. I just got unlucky in game 2 and drew only a pridemage that was inquistioned away. Maybe the only change I would make is nature's claim in place of naturalize depending on the meta.

Okay now to answer to answer how I did against other modern decks:

Beat: Kiki chord, jund, infect

Loss: 8-rack (though it was close just couldn't draw the answers to bridge lock), and R/G Tron. Yeah Karn is a major pain.

Ah makes sense.

I did and found the list to be sweet. I grabbed the angel over cloudshift mostly because I only had one cloudshift but enough angels from the days of junk reanimator of innistrad/rtr. Also the extra body to make up for the adjustments made me willing to take the risk. Smartest move...probably not, but it was fun and I didn't have to pick up anything new.

I wouldn't call this deck unloved it's really awesome! As for the eldrazi match, it did pretty well at the modern I just came back from beating the eldrazi both times I faced it. The only change I made was replacing 2 fleecemane lion and with restoration angel. Yeah it slowed down my early game and I realize in modern that can be suicide, but being able to take advantage of the fiend hunter loop for a permanent exile instead of a temporary bandage made it a worthwhile experiment to me.

Standard really isn't my forte as I play mostly modern. Any suggestions are welcome. I don't really know what the standard meta for my area is so I'm just looking for something that seems reasonable that won't cost me a lot. Disclaimer on the cost part, I know $600 isn't cheap, but I pulled most of what I needed from prize packs or my buy a box of the new set for the lolz so I have most of the list already.

Trying to build an obscure 4 color deck to be silly with loose cards I have. Biggest weakness is probably the mana base, but I'm not good at balancing. Any suggestions are welcomed.

What about madcap skills? It gives the same effect as goblin wardrum with +3 power and only cost rc (1 red 1 colorless).

One more thing I would like to note, this version is based around a $100 budget shell that has since evolved so yes I am aware some of the configuration is still far from ideal.

I like this shell. Have you considered 1.)veteran swordsmith 2.)veteran armorsmith and or 3.)Veteran armorer? These cards buff soldiers and can trigger the champion of the parish while adding more speed to the deck. Well that's my competitive side talking.

The more causal side of me just enjoys the flavor of this deck as is.

Thank you. I saw most of these cards sitting in my collection and went hmm, wonder what shenanigans I can pull with these and this list was born. Easy to upgrade for the "magic is serious business" player yet simple enough to take for light-hearted events.

It can be so difficult to blend the two worlds indeed. I semi made it work during Innistrad/Return to Ravnica with BUG zombies, but have not been able to find a hybrid deck for the following standard seasons. I don't want to be the guy my nontournament friends don't want to play because my decks are too dickish. At the same time, I don't want FNM to be when I finally get to test the on paper vs in practice functionality. I fear my decks tend to show this sometimes (if they don't just flat out suck at least -whistles-).

Back on the main topic very fun deck. I enjoy reading your builds Jessie; I just tend to shy away from the comments because I don't want to spam really cool on every deck page when I have nothing constructive to offer in terms of ideas that fit the theme and don't break the true casual intent.

End of rant.

Thanks for the kind words. I've been enjoying the proxy games with this deck even though the match is pretty much over once genesis resolves.

As someone who plays a stoneblade variant in legacy, I approve strongly of decks utilizing the power of stoneforge mystic. Some extra thoughts

1.)Steelshaper's gift- love that card and feel like it's underused even as sideboard option way to go.

2.)Have you considered batterskull? It can be tutored for with both steelshaper's gift and stoneforge mystic and gives you a free creature when played in the form of a germ token. If someone tries to remove it, it can be bounced assuming you have enough mana. Finally, who doesn't like +4/+4 vigilance and lifelink on a single creature?

Happened to me twice last night when I brought mono-black aggro to a tourney. Got lucky in a few games with the whip saving me, but I don't like depending on drawing that card when tutor options are limited.
