Deck Description

Thanks to M12 I finally have a captian for this deck. Fire and Ice would like to welcome Chandra the Firebrand the burn decks best friend. This is my take on a burn deck focusing on spelling you to death and damage multiplication. Since I hate most of the creatures in Red I decided to build a deck without them. Don't get me wrong, if you do not stay a move ahead of your opponent you can go down quick BUT with the mana curve on this puppy being so low I think you can and will stay a move ahead of your opponent and eitheir get a creature lock or just pummel them into the ground.

Come out of the gate with guns blazing. There is nothing more annoying early game then when those tiny elves or merfolk don't even get to take a breath of life before the unholy fire extinguishes them. Lightning Bolt, Skred, Pyroclasm, even Volt Charge can win you an early advantage by throwing their game off.

Once your opponent has no creatures out let Aether Flash hit the board and prevent your opponent from playing anything else. Then double that damage with Furnace of Rath which makes all of your low cost burn spells twice as effective. Instead of just using your burn spells on creatures put those things to work with Repurcussion (or The Reper as I call it). With that all your burn spells do double duty killing creatures and killing your opponent. Fireblast looks like an expensive card but for 2 paltry mountians you can cast it and the 4 damage is yours practically free of charge. Great for finishing moves.

The support cards are all there to make sure you get to the finish line with just enough life to win. First there is Fork, a nifty little 2R instant that not only can multiply you but can: Cancel counter spells, turn hand and land destruction cards back on your opponent, giving you the same fetch advantage as your opponent. Basically it can do whatever you can do which is why it is a scary little card just REMEMBER TO PLAY IT. There have been many times where using it agains my opponent would have been beneficial but I forgot to use it. How about Sandstone Needle? Bet you don't see that in many legacy main decks. With that 2 mana bump you can play many of your key cards a turn early and while your at it why dont you proliferate that bad boy and give yourself an extra counter. Shrine of Burning Rage pumps up to mammoth sizes in just a few turns and gives you a ticking time bomb that you can unleash at the drop of a hat.

Finally Capt. Chandra. Each ability she has can benefit you in some way, shape, or form. First she is cheap only 4 paltry mana (comes in with only 3 loyalty counters however so watch out). Her +1 ability is good for weenie spot removal or just to spread some more damage around on those creatures that are just strong enough to survive your burn spells. Her -2 is fork... think about that for a second. You can play her, sac two lands to play fireblast, use her -2, then if you have 2 more mana hanging out use a real fork. That is a total of 12 damage using only 1 burn spell and about 6 mana. Her ultimate is just poetry in motion, with repercussion on the field and just 2 or 3 creatures its an instant kill.

The sideboard is in for a few different reason. As I said before this is a good deck because its sneaky and unusual since its creatureless. If your opponent splashes in enchantment destruction don't take the chance of letting Repercussion get swallowed up and put in Stuffy Doll, a very even replacement. Manabarbs is good for a deck you know does the old untap dance with their mana every turn (I'm talking to you GREEN). Leyline of Punishment will put those life gainers a little but behind and Crush can put a monkey wrench in lots of strategies that rely on artifacts or enchantments.

Deck discussion for Fire and Ice - The Flaming Reaper

Hey, thanks for the Comment. I think Tower of Calamities would work well in this deck, as would straight up Fireball and a Fire Servant wouldn't hurt, practically the same effect as Furnace of Rath.

Tower of calamities is a little on the expensive side but would be cool, and fire servant might actually work better then Furnace of Rath but I am trying to keep this creatureless since repercussion and aether flash go both ways. I may end up adding in ball lightning if I feel like this isn't going to work and at that time fire servant might be a viable option.

Add one of the 2 Chandra or both. Know they're a little manacosty, but so is Shivan meteor. So you could add any combination of the 2 planeswalkers and take out 2 Shivan Meteor. What do you think of that?

ya know what I find myself holding on to that card as a finishing move anyway, it is not really useful as a burn spell so I think I am going to try that out. I will try 2 Ablaze, thanks for the suggestion.

Good pick since they're really cheap to buy.

and I just got a cool foil one from a friend of mine! I think abalaze works better with the strategy any way.
