I'm still a fairly new player but for speeding and ramping I'd suggest some Birds of Paradise, the new Somberwald Sage, or even a Borderland Ranger to help with the speed/ramping.

I love Craterhoof and consider him badly underestimated, despite his cost.

Or...and this might be a novel concept to you...people can like what they want to like. Frankly I can't stand the hideous art and the crappy card design graphics in the older sets nor do I want to pay ridiculous prices for those cards either. And finally, there's a point where the card pool is simply way too large to be manageable for purposes of deck-building.

While I was (mostly) kidding with my remark, I definitely stand by any player's right to play whatever formats they'd like to.

Honestly, I don't really much care whether some faceless Magic nerd thinks I'm a "real" Magic player or not, so I suppose it's a moot point.
