True story, Wumpus, my very first "tourney" was at a friend's house. He was one of the best players we had in our group. I had just built my first "real" deck. A mono blue control deck. Anyways, the friend of mine had also a mono blue control deck. HOWEVER, it was entirely set up to face against red decks. It wasn't until he was in the final match (out of 8 people) playing another good friend of mine that I realized why he had a deck specifically against red decks...

The other friend had a mono red deck that was entirely built to fight against blue decks.

You see...those two people, being confident enough in their abilities to beat everyone else, had built a blue deck to fight against a red deck. Hydroblast. Pyroblast. Elemental Blasts. Fun stuff.

Fyi, the guy with the red deck won...i think he was running 2 or 3 Sneak Attacks in his deck (that was in 2001, who knew Sneak Attack would be so expensive now! I wonder if he still plays/has his cards/knows how much that card went up).

And I lost to the guy with the mono blue control deck designed against red decks. He beat me with a Soul Barrier. It cost me 2 mana every time i wanted to play a creature. He just outpaced me after he played Soul Barrier. I was so worried about bouncing/countering his Soul Barriers, lol, he was able to keep playing his creatures and beat me.

Damn Firewalker is a true bane against red. So is lifegain.
Leyline will shut red decks down too, for sure.

Don't think I have ever seen both Black Vise and Stroke of Genius in a single deck. Also have to love that.

Counters that draw cards/activate Words of Wind, nice.

Mana producers for the combo/and in the case your lands get bounced. Nice, again.

Added Upheaval for backup. If my creatures are phased out, Upheaval can't target them. Upheaval bounces everything. And my creatures phase back in, unharmed. My opponent and I have to play from scratch, but they now have creatures to attend to. Thanks Puschkin!

Yep, never tried to splash colors with blue bounce. but Azorius Aethermage is one of those cards like Tolarian Entrancer (another card you showed me) that just begs to be broken.

Cloudstone Curio...it does combo with a lot of stuff. :)

It has white in it's mana cost. I am running mono blue...so there would have to be a lot of changing to put it in.

However, never made a bounce deck that is both white and blue. So i could do an entire deck around Azorius aethermage :)
